Morning by Morning, December 21 - “Realigned” to Realize the Promises of God Good morning, Lord Jesus. Savior of the world, Savior of my soul, be at the center of my life and in every moment of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with Child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 1:4-7). As I ponder this part of the Christmas story this morning, I hear in my heart the word “realigned.” ... Joseph and Mary were “realigned” to realize the promises of God that were spoken to them of this Child that would be born to them. You led them to be “realigned” from one place to another, from Nazareth to Bethlehem, from their ordinary place to an extraordinary place. The place You sent them was not the place they were expecting. They thought they would stay in the “normal” place of an inn, but the place You sent them was a strange and unexpected place of a barn with manger. It was in that place You prepared that they experienced the fulfillment of the promises of God. They had to be willing to be “realigned” to realize those promises. As I look back on my life, I see many times You “realigned” me. Sometimes in my heart, sometimes in my home, sometimes in my geography, sometimes in my expectations. You moved me from Texas as a lawyer to Kentucky to be trained and equipped for ministry, then back to Texas again after a long season in Kentucky. You moved me from knowing about You to deeply knowing You in increasing intimacy of worship and prayer, of surrender and faith, of experiencing the Presence of God in times of spiritual breakthrough for myself and for others, but also throughout the moments of my day. You moved me from hungering for more of Your Holy Spirit to being baptized and overflowing with Your Spirit and Fire in a personal revival of my soul. And daily, You keep moving me to desire less of me and more of You, as You increase and I decrease, replacing my pride and self-centeredness with more humility and grace-centeredness, as You keep teaching me to willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone. With every move, You’ve “realigned” me to realize Your promises for me. Give me the grace to keep following Your lead. Where You lead me, I will follow. Where You send me, I will go. Put me the places You’ve prepared for me -- whether expected or unexpected, ordinary or extraordinary, normal or strange, even natural or supernatural -- that I may be “realigned” to realize all the promises and plans You have for me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
