Morning by Morning, May 9 - The Angel of the Lord and The Spirit of the Lord
Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m waiting in Your Presence and listening for Your leading -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
When You encouraged Israel to go in and take possession of her Promised Land, You set an example for us as we go in to take passion of our Promised Land -- in our inheritance in You and the fullness of our salvation as sons and daughters of God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come” (1 Corinthians 10:11).
You told them You would send an angel in front of them to lead them and guard them. Then You said Your name would be in him:
“I am going to send an angel in front of you, to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared. Be attentive to him and listen to his voice; do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression, for My name is in him. But if you listen attentively to his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes” (Exodus 23:20-22).
Now, for us, for those “on whom the ends of the ages have come,” the angel of the Lord goes before us and the Spirit of the Lord abides within us.
Thank You for the angel of the Lord. “Are not all angels spirits in the divine service, sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (Hebrews 1:14). “Bless the Lord, O you His angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, obedient to His spoken word” (Psalm 103:20). “For He will command His angels concerning (us) to guard (us) in all our ways” (Psalm 91:11).
And most of all, thank You for the Spirit of the Lord. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). “(We) are not in the flesh; (we) are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in (us). Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him” (Romans 8:9). “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in (us), He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to (our) mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in (us)” (Romans 8:11).
In our day, under our “New Covenant” in Christ, You call us and empower us to “receive (our) promised eternal inheritance” (Hebrews 9:15). In our Covenant with You, with You abiding in us as we abide in You, You empower us by Your grace within us to cross over into the promised land of our eternal inheritance “if (we) listen attentively to (Your) voice and do that (You) say, (promising that You) will be an enemy to our enemies and a foe to our foes” and promising “to guard (us) on the way and to bring (us) to the place that (You) have prepared” (Exodus 23:20-22).
In our day, our enemies are not wicked people in the land, but forces of spiritual wickedness that seek to resist us from entering into the fullness of the land of our spiritual, eternal inheritance in You. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).
So give us grace to hear and courage to obey. Empower us to advance as the children of God, as the army of the Lord, into all You have prepared for us. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God” (Romans 8:14). As we do, You will be an enemy to our enemies and a foe to our foes by the victory of Your cross and the authority of Your name!
We praise You and thank You for the angel of the Lord who goes before us and the Spirit of the Lord who abides within us! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
