Holy is Your Name - January 13, 2023

Morning by Morning, January 13 - Holy is Your Name   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I look to You and listen for Your leading -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations’” (Exodus 2:14-15).   I’ve been deeply meditating on Your name for several days in my early morning prayer times -- I AM WHO I AM. In the original Hebrew as the four Hebrew letters YHWH. When the vowels of Adonai are added between these consonants, as has been a tradition, it becomes Yahweh, or Jehova. And in the Bible translations, it is often expressed as LORD in all capital letters or LORD GOD in many expressions. In the religion of Judaism and some branches of Messianic Christianity and others, it’s even considered too sacred to write or speak.   Your name speaks of eternity, infinity, without beginning and without end. Everlasting to everlasting. There’s so much depth here that I know I’m only scratching the surface in beginning to grasp what You are speaking and revealing and teaching. And I’m sure this will continue to be a deep topic in my spiritual journey into deep prayer in this season. I know I have much to learn and probably even much to be corrected about what I think I have learned so far.   Even this holy and sacred name of God is expressed and fulfilled in You, Lord Jesus. When You took up the identity of this name of I AM for Yourself, You were accused of blasphemy; and they tried to stone You to death:   “‘Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see My day. He saw it and was glad.’ So the Jews said to Him, ‘You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.’ So they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple” (John 8:56-59).   Later, You also revealed Yourself to John and as he wrote of Your words of Your identity in the Book of Revelation:   “‘I AM the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty’” (Revelation 1:8).   There’s so much more -- even a lifetime and eternity of more -- to learn and to know, then to learn more and know more -- of Your name and all that means. For Your name reveals Your nature. And Your nature is Your identity. And we are called to come to know You more, as the Apostle Paul expressed of his own spiritual journey into the spiritual maturity, being conformed into the image of the Son of God:   “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith -- that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own” (Philippians 3:8-12).   But right now, all I want to say is, “Holy is Your name. Holy is Your name. Holy is Your name.”   Eternal One. Infinite One. Holy and Everlasting One. I worship You. Holy is Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Blessed” to “Walk in His Ways” - January 11, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, January 11 - “Blessed” to “Walk in His Ways”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, so I can seek to walk in Your ways by the power of Your grace today. ...   “How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways” (Psalm 128:1). ...   We don’t earn our salvation by walking in Your ways. We’re saved by grace through faith in You -- it’s our personal relationship with You as Lord and Savior alone that determines our salvation (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8).   And at the same time, we do receive Your blessing as we walk in Your ways, as we honor and fear the Lord, as we yield to Your Lordship as the authority and guiding principle in our lives. We’re saved so that now we can walk in Your ways, as we grow deep in our faith, grow up in spiritual maturity, and grow out in the transformation of our world, just as You have transformed us.   “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set (us) free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (Romans 8:1-4 ESV).   The same power of Your grace that saves us and sets us free from the law of sin and death is the same power of Your grace that empowers us to “walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit” (v. 4). In that place of growing in spiritual maturity -- not settling for merely our salvation, as wonderful and as essential as that is -- we also begin to experience the deeper life and fuller peace that’s now available to us through life in Your Spirit:   “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:5-8).   Praise You, Lord, for setting us free for life in You! We have life in You because Your very Spirit lives in us!   “(We), however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in (us). Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in (us), although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in (us), He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to (our) mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in (us)” (Romans 8:9-11).   Thank You for this grace! Thank You for this power of God abiding in us to walk in Your ways as You live out Your ways through us:   “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if (we) live according to the flesh (we) will die, but if by the Spirit (we) put to death the deeds of the body, (we) will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:12-14).   All by the power of Your grace that saves us and is maturing us, we are sons and daughters of God, set free to live by the Spirit, as we are led by the Spirit to walk in Your ways by Your Spirit. And in this, we are truly blessed.   “For (we) did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but (we) have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs -- heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him” (Romans 8:15-17).   What is to “suffer” is not our true identity as children of God in You. What is to “suffer” is our flesh -- that part of us that wants to be Lord ourselves instead of yield to Your Lordship, wanting to walk in our own ways apart from Your ways. It’s our flesh that needs to suffer and die by the mercy of Your grace so that we can truly live our life in Christ, as we allow You to live Your life in us:   “(We) have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer (we) who live, but Christ who lives in (us). And the life (we) now live in the flesh (we) live by faith in the Son of God, who loved (us) and gave Himself for (us)” (Galatians 2:20). “For (we) have died, and (our) life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is (our) life appears, then (we) also will appear with Him in glory!” (Colossians 3:3)   That’s the blessed life! That’s our best life now! -- to borrow a phrase from a famous preacher and apply it to the will and ways of our even more famous Savior!   So I begin this day thanking You for Your grace to walk in Your ways by Your Spirit in the fear of the Lord. Keep putting Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart all day long. Keep filling me up with Your Spirit all day long (Ephesians 5:18). And I thank You now that it will be another good day in Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Life. Liberty. And the Pursuit of Happiness.” - January 10, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, January 10 - “Life. Liberty. And the Pursuit of Happiness.”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign as King of my heart and Lord of my life today. ...   As I wait for the leading of Your Holy Spirit, these words come to my heart this morning: “Life. Liberty. And the pursuit of happiness.” ...   My first thought, of course, is that these words are from the Declaration of Independence instead of the Bible. And I wonder if these are just words from my own thoughts and not Your words forming in my thoughts through the communion of prayer. But I wasn’t thinking any thoughts at all about these things when I settled in to pray this morning, and tend to think they are from You.   Looking up these words in this historic document, I find their Source is from You after all:   “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”   The same Creator who wrote the Bible is the same Creator who endowed every person with these “unalienable Rights” -- “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”   We’re created for life. You said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). “I AM the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). “The Spirit gives life” (John 6:63).   Likewise, true Liberty only truly comes from You. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). “For the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17 KJV), “there is freedom” (ESV).   And You’re the One who’s put the passion and desire for the pursuit of happiness in our hearts. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” (Isaiah 52:7) “Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” (Psalm 144:15)   So today, as I harken to Your voice in my heart, as I discern the leading of Your Spirit in my spirit, I declare my independence from the ways of this world and embrace the ways of God. And I declare my dependence upon You. “Depend upon the Lord; trust Him, and He will take care of you” (Psalm 37:5 NCV).   You’ve given me and every person these rights and these desires. So by the power of the grace of God I receive them today, thank You for them today, and take time to appreciate You for them today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! A Decree for 2023 - January 9, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, January 9 - A Decree for 2023   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your sheep hear Your voice and follow Your leading (John 10:3). So I’m listening for Your leading, as I begin my day deliberately, intentionally looking to You and waiting for You. ...   What comes to my heart are the words I believe You gave me this weekend to share with the Online Connect Group Leaders of MorningStar Ministries, gathered from here and several other nations from around the world. I was asked to seek the Holy Spirit for a decree that we could make together in prayer and proclamation at this beginning of 2023 (Revelation 1:6; 1 Peter 2:9; 1 Peter 4:10-11; Romans 8:14-17; 1 Corinthians 14:3).  What I shared with them, I believe also applies to all of us in the Body and Bride of Christ in this year of overcoming challenges with persistent faith and courageous boldness: While praying, I had a vision in my heart of the three Hebrew young men in the fiery furnace of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel, Chapter 3.   Nebuchadnezzar had made a decree that all the inhabitants of his kingdom would bow down and worship his golden image, and that whoever would not bow down and worship would be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire. But there were three who would not — Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They made their own decree back to the king, boldly declaring:   “If our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hand, O king, He will deliver us. But if not, be it know to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods and we will not worship the golden statue that you have set up” (Daniel 3:16).   They were thrown into the fiery furnace, but there was Another in the fire with them. They were delivered through the fire so that they did not even smell of smoke.   After seeing their witness of faith and boldness of heart, Nebuchadnezzar made another decree: “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him!” (Daniel 3:28)   Father God, we decree in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit for the MorningStar Online Connect Group Leaders in 2023:   You are our King of Kings and our Lord of Lords! (Revelation 19:16) Whatever fires we face this year — whether from the furnace of the Fire of the Holy Spirit to test us or from the furnace of the fire of the spirit of this world to destroy us; whether in the circumstances of our own hearts or in the hearts of those we’ve been entrusted to serve and to lead — we will not bow down and worship the idols of this world; but we will worship the One True God! “For indeed our God is a Consuming Fire!” (Hebrews 12:29)   This Scripture now rises up from my spirit and into my mind from Psalm 24:1-6:   “The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for He has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in His holy place? Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation. Such is the company of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah”   We decree that in 2023 we will ascend the hill of the Lord, we will stand in His holy place, by the grace of God. We will have clean hands and pure hearts, by the Blood of Jesus. We will not lift up our souls to what is false and we will fear no evil, by the power of the Holy Spirit. And we will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from the God of our salvation, for we are sons and daughters of God, manifesting the character of God in boldness and faith, as a witness and testimony to the principalities and powers of this world for the glory of God, being made manifest in us (Ephesians 3:10).   The words of an old worship song by Chris Tomlin rise up in my spirit now, as our decree of humility and faith before You:   We bow our hearts, we bend our knees; Oh Spirit come make us humble. We turn our eyes from evil things; Oh Lord we cast down our idols. So give us clean hands and give us pure hearts. Let us not lift our souls to another.... Oh God let us be a generation that seeks Who seeks Your face, oh God of Jacob!   Lord, let it be so — in our hearts and in 2023! In Jesus’ name we pray and in the authority of the mighty name of Jesus we decree! Amen. Be encouraged today!
