Godly Correction from the Father’s Heart 8-4-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I want to have Your heart in all I do and don’t do, in all I am and am not, throughout the moments of my day. … “And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children—‘My child, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, or lose heart when you are punished by Him; for the Lord disciplines those whom He loves, and chastises every child whom He accepts’…. Now discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping ands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out joint, but rather be healed. Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and through it many become defiled…. Let mutual love continue…. Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls and will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with sighing—for that would be harmful to you…. Pray for us; we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things” (Hebrews 12:5 through 13:18). I do desire to act honorably in all things, to pursue peace with everyone, to let mutual love continue. I desire to have a clear conscience that I’m doing my best, all by Your grace, to honor You in the ways I follow You and lead others. Part of the call to spiritual leadership is to have Your Father heart in carefully confronting and correcting those entrusted to our care and aligned with our call, just as we must be ready to humbly receive that ourselves. It’s all part of loving, learning, and leading as we grow into maturity. Lord, help me learn to do this better, help me learn to do this well. Give me courage to make tough choices, gentleness when I have to say hard things, and humility when I need to hear them myself. Let me not be afraid to confront the bitter roots that defile many, nor to reset the bones that are out of joint that would make our body lame in our pursuit of holiness and peace for sake of others and ourselves. Help me speak the truth in love and hear the truth in love, respecting those entrusted to my leadership and receiving the respect You expect from them. Though so often painful at the time that troubles are addressed and roots are exposed, in its time the obedience we have to follow Your ways will yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness that can’t come forth any other way. So let mutual love continue, even the tough love that sometimes comes from the Father’s heart. Let all who know us and care anything about us pray for us all to have this heart and mind of Christ, that we would not have to continue to be broken or bound, but rather be healed and free to be all You’ve created us and called us to be. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Truly Known 8-3-10 – Truly Known

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Align my life with Your will, O Lord my God— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. … “O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You discern my thoughts from far away. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways” (Psalm 139:1-3). Others may misunderstand me and judge me, but You know me. Others may hear my words through the filters of their own experiences and see my heart as they see fit in their own eyes. But Your know me. You know all my sins and failures and You know all hopes and dreams. You’re not fooled by the worst of me, but You’re also always calling forth the best in me. And every moment of every day, You are at work in the power and mercy of Your grace to make me more like You (Romans 8:29). You’re not trying to conform me to anybody else’s image; You’re trying to conform me to Your image—as I look to You instead of them, as I seek Your will instead of theirs (2 Corinthians 3:18). But it’s also not my own will apart from Your will that I desire either. I’ve learned enough to trust You to know best. You’ve made me wise enough to know to sincerely ask Your to form Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as You lead me to walk in Your ways. As I am true to You, then I am true to myself. Because You already see who I truly am and who I truly will be. “For it was You who formed my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made…. In Your book are written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed” (Psalm 139:13-16). Somehow in the divine mystery of both Your sovereignty and my freedom, You allow me to choose the path of my life, even as You know and plan for every step I’ll take. You see the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end, for You are the beginning and You are the end (Revelation 1:8). “All things have been created through (You) and for (You). (You yourself are) before all things, and in (You) all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16-17). So I willingly and wisely choose by the grace You’ve given me and the freedom I have to seek You and Your will as the path for my life—no matter what anyone else would rather choose for me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays My friend, please keep me and Messiah Ministries in prayer to hear and obey the will of God in all ways. I pray the same for you and am so grateful to have you with me in the journey of prayer, morning by morning and moment by moment. God bless you! Freedom Outposts in the Spirit of God 8-2-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Set me free to be more like You each day. … “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Lord Jesus, You are still healing the brokenhearted and setting the captives free. You are still ministering the healing love of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. As the Father sent You, so You are still sending us as Your disciples to be Your body and continue Your ministry of restoring our lives and redeeming our past, to know our identity and fulfill our destiny in You (John 20:21-23). And not only the people, but also the land and all creation groans and yearns in the hope of this freedom. “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God; for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of the One who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:19-21). And we see that happening before our eyes in our day. Your Spirit of freedom is being released in the land and in the hearts of Your people. Just Friday morning, I heard Chuck Peirce prophesy that in the coming years Kentucky would become known as a freedom outpost and that people from many surrounding states would be drawn here to be set free. By Friday night, we began our healing prayer weekend to minister the healing power of Your love to Your people through inner healing and deliverance. Those coming to receive prayer minister and those coming to pray came from six surrounding states. And there was great freedom! Let the Spirit of the Lord keep falling upon us and keep anointing us as the body and bride of Christ throughout the earth to proclaim the coming of Your Kingdom and see it demonstrated in Your power (Isaiah 61:1-2). Let Your light shine and let Your glory arise upon Your people who are called by Your name, as You heal the broken and free the bound, filling us with Your Spirit so we can fulfill our destiny (Isaiah 60:1-3). Set us free to be like Jesus. Empty us of ourselves as You fill us with Yourself, that we “may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19). As you do, the glory of the Presence of God, have full and free access to live and love in and through Your people throughout all the earth will fulfill the prophecy of Your Word that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). For wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Mobilize and Rise in the New Sound of “Moving Glory 7-30-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Lead me into Your truth for my life today. … “Arise, shine; for your Light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you” (Isaiah 60:1). Arise! Arise! Arise and shine, my soul Arise! Arise! Arise and be made whole For my Light has come He’s made me one And called me to come Along in the journey with Him Arise my soul For all to know That Jesus is King Here living within my soul Thank You for these words of a new song Your Holy Spirit is writing and singing in my heart and soul this morning as I rise. My spirit is still stirring from the words of encouragement I heard with many last night. I joined with prayer warriors and passionate worshipers from around Kentucky in Madisonville last night to hear a prophetic word of the redemptive calling upon our people and our land that Chuck Pierce was sent here to proclaim to the people of Kentucky: “Kentucky will mobilize … I will send a sweeping west wind and the songs will rise from the ground to connect with the songs of heaven and a new sound will penetrate through this state from west to the east. I say that the glory will move back from the east to west. And where adversity was holding this state, with My sound of portion from the west begins to interact with My glory from the east, there will be a breaking down of the line of division that has held this state back…. You will be a people who will have such a moving glory worship that (the throne of evil assigned by the enemy over this state to destroy its destiny) will topple…. A sovereign move in one day…. Those that were fractured will be drawn in…. For the land has withheld its produce until the will of My Spirit begins to rise. I say that sound is now beginning tonight…. Leaders will make a handshake in days ahead to worship together…. I will now begin to unlock within you what you thought you could not see. Now vision will come. I will surprise you for you will be in the midst of your normal activities and I will open your eyes in a new way…. (Others) will gather into this place to be free. Many who are held captive by the wilderness… will gather into this place to be free. For you will be known as the state that is capable of bringing a people and a nation out of their wandering…. That circle that you’ve been wandering in is now broken! … This will be the state where My Spirit will manifest in its fullness…. Beginning tonight I am coming again to this state!” Yes, Lord. Let it be so. You are speaking Your words of life and truth to Your people who will hear and pray and proclaim the coming of Your Word and Spirit into our hearts and throughout our land. Awaken our hearts in worship. Let our souls arise in praise, even violent praise that shakes the spiritual realm and changes the spiritual atmosphere of our land by this move of Your Holy Spirit within us (Matthew 11:12). Fulfill Your purposes through Your people. You’ve been moving us to prepare the way of the Lord for generations in worship and prayer. Come Lord Jesus, and be enthroned in our praises over this land that freedom may come. Let the days of our wandering in the wilderness come to an end and the days of the fulfillment of our destiny come forth to the glory of Your name. “You, O Lord, are enthroned forever; Your name endures to all generations. You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to favor it; the appointed time has come” (Psalm 102:12-13). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, I pray for God's fulfillment of His prophetic destiny for your land and mine as we seek the Lord and follow the vision He seals in our hearts--all in His time and His way, as we trust and obey. Trusted Discernment 7-29-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart. I entrust this day and my life into Your will and Your care. … “Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who revered the Lord and thought on His name. They shall be Mine, says the Lord, My special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serves them. Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him” (Malachi 3:16-18). We can all be deceived, confused, or mistaken. None of us always hear and obey Your voice perfectly. And when we earnestly try to, the enemy of our souls seems especially interested in coming to deceptively appear as an “angel of light” and subtly sound like the Holy Spirit to sow as much destruction and wreak as much havoc as possible in the name of God (2 Corinthians 11:13-14). So we must continually look to You—to revere You as Lord and think on Your name, to entrust our thoughts and desires to You, and to persistently give You permission to purge all deception and confusion from us. Then You can heal us and free us from the insecurities and fears that can so easily lead us to open to the door to deception, control, and manipulation of others for the purposes of our own will that we can sincerely, but mistakenly claim to be Your will. We must have humility to acknowledge our vulnerabilities, courage to seek the godly council of godly friends, and admit when we’re wrong or out of the order that You have established in our lives. We must “discern” the true motives that can cloud our judgment as we continually, willingly, open our hearts wide before You (Malachi 3:18, NKJV). Only then can we begin to trust that our discernment is true and our heart on the matter is pure. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11, NKJV). You are watching for those who are watching for You. They are the children who seek You and long to serve You. They are Your “special possession” with a tender place in Your Father heart. I want to be one of those children. I want to be sensitive to Your leading and correction, to Your conviction and encouragement. And I want the power of Your grace to redeem my mistakes and even cause me to grow wiser and stronger in Your Word and Your Spirit. Keep me in the place of seeking Your face. Let me serve and lead with authority and love because I follow You in humility and trust. Keep sorting out the wheat from the chaff, the spirit from the flesh, the righteousness from the wickedness in my own heart and in the hearts of all around me. Let our names be found in Your book of remembrance among those found faithful to seek You first and Your Kingdom and Your righteousness above all else. As we speak with one another, let us encourage one another to seek first and only the will of the One who alone deserves our compete trust. I trust You so much because I love You so much; and I love You so much because You first loved me (1 John 4:19). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Come with Trumpet Sound 7-28-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name is the name above every name. In these first moments of my morning, I bow down before You, worship and adore You, as I entrust my day to Your care. … “Make two silver trumpets; you shall make them of hammered work; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation, and for breaking camp” (Numbers 10:2). You led Israel through the wilderness by the cloud and fire of Your Presence (v. 9:15-23). And You spoke to their hearts to call them to come and align them as one by the sound of Your trumpets. At one sound, You called them to gather. At another sound, You sent them forth. They were to sound the trumpets when they were to assemble as a whole congregation (v. 10:3), when they were to come as a gathering of the leaders (v. 4), when they were to prepare for attack or set out in battle (v. 5-6), and when they rejoiced with thanksgiving and celebration for Your goodness and provision in their lives (v. 10). They were to know the sound of Your trumpets and immediately respond, following the leading of Your voice through the means You would choose. But those entrusted with the assignment to sound the trumpets at Your command had to be clear in the call they sent. And those called to respond had to be clear in their minds about the meaning of each distinctive sound of the call they heard. Otherwise, there would be confusion and chaos, instead of unity and order (1 Corinthians 14:7-8). We must learn to discern with clarity and precision the call of Your command in the ways You choose to assemble us, align us, and advance us in Your purposes and plans. Help us take the time now to be trained to respond to the sound of Your command. And then ultimately, one day we will be able hear and respond to Your “cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of (Your) trumpet” as You “descend from heaven” to gather us to Yourself, when You return in glory to restore all things (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). “When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found…. On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! Led by Cloud and Fire 7-27-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my face and open up my heart, as I speak out Your name and welcome in Your Spirit to begin this new day. … “On the day the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant; and from evening until morning it was over the tabernacle, having the appearance of fire. It was always so: the cloud covered it by day and the appearance of fire by night. Whenever the cloud lifted from over the tent, then the Israelites would set out; and in the place where the cloud settled down, there the Israelites would camp. At the command of the Lord the Israelites would set out, and at the command of the Lord the Israelites would camp” (Numbers 9:15-18). I spent seven days and nights last week, preaching at old-fashioned Georgia campmeeting out under “the tabernacle” and surrounded by “the tents” of those who came to experience Your Presence and encounter Your power to refresh and renew our lives. We came to tabernacle with You. And You came and “tabernacled” within us. You filled out hearts with the cloud of the glory of Your Presence and set us ablaze with the fire of the power of Your Spirit. Though most of the families had been coming for generations, each person was drawn there to camp “at the command of the Lord” by the drawing of Your Holy Spirit. And just as You led us to come, so You sent us out—not keeping what You have done hidden away in a camp, but carrying Your cloud and Your fire with us and within us wherever You send us. Every morning, draw me close to come to campmeeting in prayer with You. Let Your glory fill the tabernacle of my heart, let Your fire burn as tongues of flame over my head. Let me come and go at Your command through the wilderness of this world on my journey home to the place You’ve promised to prepare for me. May it always be so. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, thank you for covering us in prayer at the historic Lebanon Methodist Campmeeting last week near Gainesville, Georgia. Send Your Supernatural Power 7-23-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me start off this day centered in You, grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit. … “While Peter was kept in prison, the church prayed fervently to God for him…. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him, saying, ‘Get up quickly.’ And the chains fell off his wrists…. Then Peter came to himself and said, ‘Now I am sure that the Lord has sent His angel and rescued me from the hands of Herod…’ ” (Acts 12:5-11). When Peter was in prison, Your church wasn’t moved with fear, Your church was moved to pray. And as they moved in prayer, You moved in power. You didn’t send them to break through the prison bars by human means, You called them to break through by spiritual means. You didn’t send someone with hacksaw to cut through Peter’s chains, You sent an angel with Your supernatural power. He wasn’t rescued by the power of man in the natural realm, he was rescued by God in the spiritual realm. You are a supernatural God. And there are times when we become so imprisoned by the chains of our circumstances that we can only be set free by Your supernatural power. And when You do, we can be sure that it was You alone who rescued us. O Lord, send Your supernatural power to break through into every area of my life today. Send Your supernatural power to break through into every life my life will touch today. Like the disciples of Your early church, I want to pray fervently, proclaim Your name fearlessly, and expectantly trust You to move in every challenging circumstance I face powerfully. I don’t want to just talk about it, I want to pray about it. And when I pray about it, I want to believe by faith that You have heard my prayers and sent Your power to rescue me. That’s how Your Kingdom comes and Your will is done, here on earth and here in all the challenges of my life, as it is in heaven. “For the Kingdom of God depends not on talk but on power” (1 Corinthians 4:20). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, please keep us in prayer for our Lebanon Methodist Camp Meeting outside of Gainesville, Georgia this week. If you're in the area, come join us for revival every night through Sunday night with special music starting at 7:30. God bless you and may He set you ablaze with revival in your heart! Camp Meeting at the Tabernacle 7-22-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I love You, Lord, and I thank You for first loving me. … “This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you. And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified for My glory…. I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the Lord their God” (Exodus 29:42-46, NKJV). For seven nights, I’ve been honored to be the preacher at the Lebanon Methodist Camp Meeting out in the country woods of north Georgia. It’s a tradition that’s been faithfully carried on for a hundred and sixty-four years. There’s been a camp meeting revival out under this tabernacle at the center of camp every year since the middle of the eighteen hundreds except for the year Sherman’s army came through here to burn Atlanta in the Civil War. And just like the tabernacle the children of Israel carried through the wilderness on their way to the promised land, this tabernacle is surrounded by “the tents” of the families and friends who set aside a week of their lives to come to camp meeting to encounter Your Presence and be strengthened in Your Word and Your Spirit. Many of the families are here every year with four generations and sometimes five, who’ve grown up going to camp meeting and wouldn’t be any place else during this week every summer. The campground is filled with the laughter of children and circles of chairs of cousins and families catching up on life. They come out of the Egypt of their everyday lives to meet their God and meet with their families in this holy place where You manifest Your Presence and display Your glory. How pleased You must be with the “continual offering” of their sacrifice of praise throughout the generations. Every meal is a feast of the best southern home cooking with fresh tomatoes and corn on the cob picked out of the fields and gardens that day. And every night is feast of worship and southern gospel lifted up to the heavens and welcomed deep within our hearts. Surely the cloud of the glory of Your Presence and the pillar of fire of Your Spirit rests upon this holy ground set apart to come dwell with You as You come dwell with us. Here in this place and forever in our hearts, You are the Lord our God and we are Your people. O Lord, keep coming to tabernacle among us—here this week and throughout our lives and throughout our generations. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, sorry that I've not had internet access to send out my morning prayers this week. I've gone "outside the camp" to send it this morning. “Go to Him outside the Camp” 7-19-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift my eyes and open my hear to You my King. Let Your Kingdom come in my heart and throughout my day. … “Let us then go to Him outside the camp… For here we have no lasting city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. Through Him, then, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess His name” (Hebrews 13:13-15). I’m up early and at the airport on my way to Georgia to preach the next seven nights at an old-fashioned Holy Ghost camp meeting. They tell me I’ll be staying in “the preacher’s tent” and ministering to the people in “the tabernacle.” Glory to God! As in the days of old, call us away on a pilgrimage with You to go to a deeper place within each one of us. As we sing Your praise and confess Your name, let us be changed. Save us and sanctify us, heal us and deliver us, fill us up with the Holy Ghost and set our hearts on fire with a fresh passion for You. Let it not only be a revival of Your Spirit in our souls, but also a revolution of Your love in our hearts. May we never be the same. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, I'm not sure what internet access I'll have this coming week, but hope to be in touch with my morning prayers. Thank you for joining me in the journey and I'd welcome your prayers for us in Georgia. God bless you and may He set you ablaze with revival in your heart! Healing our Wounded Emotions 7-16-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Cleanse me and fill me, anoint me and empower me, live in me and through me today. … “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits—who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:1-5). I’ll be teaching today at the Aldersgate Conference on Spirit-filled Living in Charleston about Your will and power to heal our wounded emotions and ministering the healing love of God to all who come. The healing of our souls—our mind, will, and emotions—is very important to you. You care about the healing of our spirits, so that we may be free from the law of sin and death to live eternally with You. And You care about the healing of our bodies, so that we may strong and sound to serve You and share You in good health. But You also care about our souls, so that we may live life and live it abundantly in our minds and how we think, in our wills and how we make our choices throughout the moments of our days, and in our emotions and how we sense and feel all the encounters and experiences of life. You desire that “all may go well with (us), and that (we) may be in good health, just as it is well with our (soul)” (3 John 2). You desire “that (we) may prosper in all things and be in good health, just as (our) souls prospers” (NKJV). So take our fears and worries, uproot our bitterness and mend our offenses. Change our shame and pain into praise. Break off discouragement and depression. Cleanse us from our lusts and unholy desires. Redeem our lives from the Pit—all the places that try to hold us back and shut us down from experiencing the fullness of life You long give and for us to live. Heal us, free us, purify us and sanctify us in “spirit and soul and body” that we may be both “sound and blameless” in every area of our lives, including the very depths of our emotions (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Then we will know the “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” of “the Kingdom of God” that abides in us as we abide in You (Romans 14:17). In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Come to The Fountain! Seeking the Secrets of the Kingdom 7-15-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings, Lord of lords, be King of my heart and Lord of my life today. … “He said, ‘To you it has been given to know the secrets of the Kingdom of God…’ ” (Luke 8:10). Like searching for gold, there are secrets of Your Kingdom that wait for those who seek them. Like treasures hidden in a field, they are buried to be found by those who will take the time to dig and persist until they hold the thing they seek in their hands. They are not secret because You don’t want us to know them and they are not hidden because You don’t want us to find them. But You’ve created us to grow in wisdom as we pursue our reward. It’s not just the destination that’s important, but also who we are becoming in the journey. It’s not just what we hold in our hands at the end of the day or come to believe in our minds by an intellectual assent to truth by the end of our lives that matters, but also all that we learn from our mistakes about Your nature and ours, as You form our nature into Your nature all along the way. This is how we come to know the secrets of the Kingdom of God. “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10, NKJV). Lord, give me that anointing—the anointing of the seeker, the anointing of one who’s always hungry for more—always asking, always seeking, always knocking. “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out” (Proverbs 25:2). What secrets of Your Kingdom have You set before me to seek out and discover today? … I’ll know it when I find it, but I’ll only find it if I first embrace the hunger You’re stirring in my spirit to seek for it. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Morning by Morning, Wednesday 7-14-10 – Redeemer and Restorer of Life Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek Your face every morning; I need Your grace every moment. … “Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, ‘My daughter, I need to seek some security for you, so that it may be well with you’” (Ruth 3:1). You created each of us with a deep need for security—a deep need for a sense of belonging, being honored and respected for who we are, grounded in our true identity and growing into our true destiny. Only when we have that sense of security deep down in our soul may it truly be well with us. Naomi knew that need for herself and for her daughter-in-law Ruth. Both were widowed, both were no longer secure in the lives they’d had because of the tragedies and tribulations of life. But even out of her own insecurities, You moved in Naomi’s heart to seek that security for Ruth. So she encouraged Ruth to seek the one who would be her security and redeem the brokenness of her life (v. 2-18). Naomi sent Ruth to Boaz, who would become Ruth’s husband and become Ruth’s redeemer, restoring her name and her inheritance of both land and descendants under the customs of Israel (v. 4:1-13). Not only would Boaz become Ruth’s redeemer, but he would become Naomi’s as well. Ruth and Boaz would bear a son—a grandson Naomi would embrace in her arms, loved and secure, with the blessing all who saw what God had done: “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without next-of-kin; and may his name be renowned in Israel! He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has borne him” (v. 4:14-15). Naomi who sought the security of a redeemer for Ruth found that very security for herself. What she had sown she also reaped; by the measure she gave she also received. And not only did Ruth and Naomi receive the blessing of the security of a redeemer. But their blessing would become our blessing. Ruth and Boaz had a son named Obed, who had a son named Jesse, who had a son named David. And one day David would have a Descendent who would be known as the Son of David, the Son of Man, the Son of God. And His name was Jesus. He would be our blessing of security and our redeemer. Because of the security we would find in Him, it would be well with us. Lord Jesus, You are my security. You are my redeemer and “the restorer of life” (v. 4:15). Only in You can it be well within me. But in You, it is well with my soul. And in You I have every need for longing and belonging fulfilled, as You ground me in my true identity and grow me into my true destiny. Like Naomi and Ruth, may I find that for myself even as I seek it for others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Come to The Fountain! Write the Vision and Run the Race 7-13-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart, as I welcome You to lead me by Your Spirit throughout my day. … “I will stand at my watchpost, and station myself on the rampart; I will keep watch what He will say to me, and what He will answer concerning my complaint. Then the Lord answered me and said: Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so that a runner may read it. For there is still a vision for the appointed time; it speaks of the end, and does not lie. If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay” (Habakkuk 2:1-3). O Lord, You know the plans You have for me and for all those who are in the communities of relationship with me in every form. And I know by Your Word that Your plans are good—“for (my) welfare and not for harm, to give (me) a future with hope”(Jeremiah 29:11). Let Your plans be my vision. Let Your vision become my prayer. And let my prayers become proclamation of the vision of Your plans being manifested in my life here on earth as it is in heaven. Give me faith to believe that they are “abundantly far more than all (I) can ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). And give me eyes to see that those plans may sometimes seem spectacular and sometimes they may seem more like a speck of dust on a busy street. But they are Your plans for Your purposes through my life. So they are always significant; they always have value; and they always have meaning. Because to You, I am always significant and I always have value; so my life I always has meaning. Let me be faithful to stand firm in the knowledge of Your goodness, Your kindness, and Your steadfast love for me. Let me strategically station myself to watch and see what You will show to me, to listen and hear what You will say to me. Let it be confirmed in my spirit, settled in my soul, and then manifested in my life. Reduce it writing on the tablet of my heart and even the paper of my journal. Then let me look at it often, remember it continually, and run with it tenaciously—running this race, looking to You (Hebrews 12:1-2). This is the appointed time. This is my season. I have no other. In the power of Your grace I will do my part in my generation to see Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, here on earth and here through my life, in every way You choose. If I stumble seven times for my sin, I will yet arise in Your mercy through my repentance (Proverbs 24:16). If I struggle and suffer for Your sake, I will yet receive a hundredfold for all that I’ve lost (Matthew 10:29-30). And when it seems like the race is long and the path is unclear, I will keep looking and listening and waiting with expectant faith and determined spirit to see all You’ve said come to pass. I will know then, at the time of the end, what I must believe by faith now—that You’re always right on time; You do not delay; and You do not lie. Shaba. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. What God has Called Clean 7-12-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my life and at the foundation of my day. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, my All in All. … “Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat; and while it was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet coming down, being lowered to the ground by its four corners. In it were all kinds of four-footed creatures and reptiles and birds of the air. Then he heard a voice saying, ‘Get up, Peter; kill and eat.’ But Peter said, ‘By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is profane or unclean.’ The voice said to him again, a second time, ‘What God has made clean, you must not call profane.’ This happened three times, and the thing was suddenly taken up to heaven” (Acts 10:9-16). Peter was hungry for the deep things of God. He was hungry to encounter Your Presence and to know Your will. He prayed fervently for Your heavens to open and Your glory to come down. And as his spirit yearned to be filled, so it was in his belly as well, in the union and alignment of spirit, soul, and body that prayer brings. But when You answered his prayers and opened Your heavens, he didn’t see what he expected to see. And when You spoke to his heart and the direction of his life in the next season of his journey of faith, the voice he heard didn’t say the things he thought You would say. So in Your mercy and patience, You spoke to him “a second time.” In Your persistence to change the paradigms of his perceptions—even those entrenched so deeply by generations of tradition, grounded so firmly in the letter of the law of God—You opened his eyes to see what You were doing and hear what You were saying “three times.” You were preparing his heart to be ready to respond to Your Spirit when the time would soon come to “get up (and) go with (those You sent to him) without hesitation” (v. 10:20). Because Peter took time to spend alone with You in prayer, he could discern the voice of Your Spirit, even when it seemed at first the Spirit of the law was speaking in contradiction to the letter of the law. Though he wasn’t ready to shift his thinking the first time You spoke, he was willing to listen because he was seeking the truth and eager to yield his life to Your will. He just needed You to confirm Your will and explain Your Word by the leading of Your Spirit. And so You did—all in Your time and in Your way as He sought to hear Your heart. And the heart of Your explanation of Your Word to Peter was this: “Do not call unclean, what God has called clean.” Peter knew his Word. And Peter knew Your Spirit. Peter grew in wisdom and obedience as he grew in humility and faith, spending time with You in the intimacy of communion in prayer. And at the center of it all was his growing understanding of all You had done for him and desired to do for all through the power of the blood of Jesus. You were teaching him the heart of the message he would proclaim and live among whomever You would send him and wherever he would go for rest of his life: There’s no sin the blood of Jesus cannot forgive, no sinner the blood of Jesus cannot save, no wound the blood of Jesus cannot heal, no chain the blood of Jesus cannot break, no tragedy of the struggles and shame and pain of life the blood of Jesus cannot redeem. If it means anything at all, the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God means there is always a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new beginning for all we will entrust into the hands of God at the foot of the cross and under the blood of Jesus. “If we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “O precious is that flow that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know; nothing but the blood of Jesus.” Thank You, Lord, for the blood of Jesus that cleanses all I have entrusted to You. You forgive all my sins, heal all my wounds, redeem all my mistakes. Through the blood of Jesus, I’m now cleansed “from all unrighteousness” despite anyone else’s judgment or understanding of the traditions of men or the letter of the law. As You made clear to the religious thinkers of Your day and as Your Spirit makes clear to all who seek Your truth and Your will through spending time in Your Word in the intimacy of communion in prayer today, You came not to destroy the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). None of us can—no matter how good we think we are or how righteously we think we’re living our lives according to the letter of the law of Your Word. Only the blood of Jesus can do that. And all I can do is choose to bring, by the power of the grace You give, all that I am and all I have into the hands of my God at the foot of the cross and under the blood of Jesus. And so I do. And having done that, no matter what anyone thinks or says about me or any other who’s given their sins and struggles, their shame and pain to You, I’m forgiven and cleansed “from all unrighteousness”—even as if I had never sinned and never been sinned against. That’s the center of the Father heart of God who loves me and forgives me by the mercy of Your grace poured out upon me through the power of the blood of Jesus. That’s the good news of a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new beginning to me. Praise God. Thank You, Jesus. So let me not sin and break Your heart, denying the power of the blood of Jesus, by calling unclean what You have called clean—whether in another or in myself. Get this truth at the heart of Your Word settled deep down within my spirit so I can get up and go, proclaiming and living this message of the power of Your love wherever You send me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays My friend, thank you for your prayers for me and my time away with family this summer. With Us through the Storm 7-6-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are faithful and true. Mighty are You. … Faithful and true Mighty are You Majestic in Your glory Epic in Your story You are the One My mighty One The One who is faithful and true … “As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His commandments” (Psalm 103:15-18). As we drove back through Oklahoma late yesterday, we came through another downpour of rain, which reminded us all a little too much of our journey through that place not many nights ago when my oldest son Zach was in that wreck that could have so easily taken His life. But we kept looking to the east and kept moving through the storm, until the stormy skies gave way to sunshine and the eerie darkness at mid-afternoon rolled back to unveil a glorious rainbow across the sky. The brilliant colors were stunning. My middle son Elijah said, “Dad, I think God is speaking to us… He’s always with us through the storm.” My youngest son Josiah said, “Look Dad, it’s not dark anymore.” And we all praised You for the peace and joy that Your promises bring. An hour or so later, as we continued our journey home, we drove past the place where the angels had fought and the heavens had opened and You spared the life of my son in the midst of the wreckage that could so easily have turned our joy into mourning and our vacation into a funeral. But as we passed that place of what could have been such a tragic event in our lives, it wasn’t fear or anger, nor shame or regret that rose up in our hearts. It was the joy of knowing that You’re the God who’s always with us through the storm. Sometimes we don’t seem to fare so well through those storms on the surface of things. Sometimes there seems to be more death than life, more brokenness than healing, more sadness than joy, more tragedy than triumph in the moment of the battle. But even then, You are with us. And even then, You’ll take everything and everyone we’ll entrust to Your care and redeem it all into something beautiful and good—never wasting a moment of our sufferings, never missing an opportunity for our growth in maturity and faith. The moments of our lives can be like a flower that flourishes for its season and fades in the field, but Your steadfast love endures forever. The challenges we face can “make us bitter or make us better” but You always seem to use them make us just a little more like You as we keep looking to You through the storm and keep moving onward and upward to home. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, thank you for your prayers for me and my sons on our journey together as we head home. Zach's doing great and had to fly back early. Elijah and Josiah and I are half way home (in our rental car!) May the Lord be with you through your storms. Climbing the Mountain of Glory in Prayer 7-2-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Steady my thoughts and stir my spirit, as I watch and wait in our morning time communion of prayer together. … “Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai…. Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain…” (Exodus 24:15-18). Moses climbed the mountain of Your Presence with his feet to enter the cloud of Your glory. But we can climb that mountain with our prayers, and the cloud of Your glory enters us. As Your cloud covered that mountain, so Your Holy Spirit covers our minds and hearts, our thoughts and desires, as we embrace Your Presence in the communion of prayer. As the fire of the Lord burned on the top of the mountain, so the fire of the Lord now burns in our hearts. In that place, as we behold You, You are changing us into Your image “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NKJV). And just as Moses came back down the mountain, so we come out of the deep place of communion with You in prayer into the place of our everyday lives around the everyday people we will encounter. But just as we continue to “pray without ceasing,” we continue to carry the glory of Your Presence with us wherever we go, changing the atmosphere around the people and places wherever You send us. That’s a means of Your grace to spread the fire of Your Spirit and the glory of Your Presence through Your people of every tribe and tongue and nation until “all the earth shall be filled with glory of the Lord” (Numbers 14:21). With Your Spirit in our hearts through prayer, we will “arise, shine; for (our) light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon (us)” (Isaiah 60:1). So keep filling me up, firing me up, and sending me forth to carry Your glory within me and wherever You send me today. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Amen. “Come Up to Me” 7-1-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. It’s good to have some time with You before my day begins—embraced by the Father, centered in Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit in these first moments of my morning. … “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Come up to Me on the mountain, and wait there …’ ” (Exodus 24:12). I’ve come away To the mountains to pray I’ve come to say I trust You more every day I want to see what You see I want to hear what You hear I want to do what You do Because I’ve spent time with You So I’ve come to hear In the mountains as I pray I’ve come to draw near To trust You more every day I want Your thoughts to be my thoughts I want Your desires to be my desires I want Your will to be my will Because I’ve spent time with You These are days set apart for rest and vacation, set apart for family and renewal. But above all, these are days set apart to have a little time out of the flow of my everyday life to come away with You. Like coming up higher to the mountains, Lord, let me come up higher in my relationship with You—to trust You more, to love You more, to give You more of all that I am and all that I have. When it’s time to go back down from these mountains, let me be changed, let me different than when I came because I’ve taken time to spend some time alone in the mountains with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! The View is Always Worth the Climb 6-20-10

Morning by Morning, Wednesday 6-30-10 – The View is Always Worth the Climb Good morning, Lord Jesus. Good morning, Heavenly Father. Good morning, Holy Spirit. Lord God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, I worship You in every Dimension of Your Being and welcome You into every dimension of my being. … “After Lot was gone, the Lord said to Abram, ‘Look as far as you can see in every direction. I am going to give all this land to you and your seed as a permanent possession. And I am going to give you so many descendants that, like dust, they cannot be counted! Take a walk in every direction and explore the new possessions I am giving you’ ” (Genesis 13:14-17, NLT). Elijah and Josiah, my two youngest sons, wanted to go hiking and exploring in the mountains yesterday on our vacation at Ruidoso, New Mexico, where my mom lives. So we drove up the mountain toward the Sierra Blanca peak and Monjeau Lookout until we came across Trail Number 24 in the White Mountain Wilderness of the Lincoln National Forest. We picked out our hiking sticks and set off on our journey through the canyon trail until we came to the mountain’s edge. The view from that high place looking out over the other ridges and valleys was beautiful. But we saw an interesting outcrop of giant rocks a little higher, around the mountain’s edge, but off the beaten path of the common trail. So we continued our little expedition on up there. When we climbed up on those rocks, the view was even more astounding. Now we could see beyond the ridges of our mountain, across the high plains desert and even to another mountain range. We took pictures and talked about being brave explorers and mighty warriors. My eight year old son, Elijah, prayed a great prayer out over the land of Your creation, thanking You for our wonderful day and exciting adventure up the mountain. My four year old, Josiah, prayed his prayer for Your protection over our journey and continued to mention the thought of Your bears. Then we looked and saw another cluster of the giant boulders up a little higher and further around the mountain’s edge. We couldn’t help but wonder how far we could see from there. So we climbed a little higher and journeyed a little farther. The view from there was even more breathtaking. And though our climb was growing steeper, our pace was growing slower, and our breaks were growing more frequent, we were all captivated by the sense of adventure to find just how far we would be able to see as we climbed higher still. By now we could look and see what seemed to be the top ridge, rising up to the peak. We all wanted to see if we could make it to the top. So little by little, we zigged and zagged and wound our way through the rocks and trees up the ridge. As we got closer to the top, our adrenaline flowed and our spirits soared with eager anticipation for the pinnacle of our adventure. At last we made it to the mountain’s peak! The highest point was a rocky cap just big enough for the three of us to stand. We waived our hiking sticks in the air, sang a song of praise, prayed and proclaimed Your blessings upon the land and its people, and took some cell phone pictures in celebration of our victory and success in accomplishing our mission. The view from there was spectacular, more than we ever could have imagined. The famous Monjeau Lookout Tower was at the same height as us on the next mountain peak over from us. We couldn’t believe how high we’d climbed! As we walked from one end of our small peak to the other, we could see forever to the north, south, east, and west. What a gift You gave us as our reward for the journey upward and onward beyond the common trail. Then we made a simple cross out of branches and vines to plant in a hole in the top of the rock, almost perfectly shaped for the base of our cross at the highest point. Then we laid down and took a nap, with a rock for my pillow and my belly for theirs. We probably could have rested there for the rest of the day, except for the sound of thunder in the distance. So we began our descent, so much easier and quicker now than our ascent, until we soothed our aching, bare feet in a cold mountain stream running through the meadow back down in the valley at the beginning of our trail. Thank You, Lord, for the sense of adventure You place in our hearts. Thank You for the times You call to come a little further, to climb a little higher, to show us the views we’ll never see from the common trail. Thank You for the joy of overcoming our challenges with those You bring alongside us in the journey up the mountains of our destiny into the peaks of Your Presence, surrounded by the beauty of Your creation. All along the journey, You always teach us more about You and more about ourselves. And the view is always worth the climb. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, I'm attaching a picture below of Elijah and Josiah and our cross on the top of the mountain peak. “The Only Thing that Counts” 6-29-10

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my eyes and open up my heart to hear Your voice and follow Your lead. … “For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus … the only thing that counts is faith working through love” (Galatians 5:5-6). “The only thing that counts?” What strong words! What clarity of mind and singleness of purpose. What focus with which to filter all the choices and priorities of how to spend the moments of my day and the purposes of my life. Can this be true? Can it really be that simple? Shouldn’t Your Word say: “The only thing that counts is getting to heaven when you die” or “The only thing that counts is obeying the rules of the law to be righteous, holy, and perfect before God” or “The only thing that counts is to know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior” or “The only thing that counts is to be as good as you can and do all the good you can” or “The only thing that counts is to be baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, healing the sick, and casting out demons” or “The only thing that counts is to make sure you give all your tithes and offerings to the pastor and his vision for your local church and make sure you pay all your apportionments to your bishop and his vision for your denomination” or “The only thing that counts is that you never take a risk, never try to change anything, never rock the boat, never upset the apple cart, never do anything or say anything to draw any attention to yourself for others to think that you think you’re something special and have some kind of special gifting, calling, purpose, and destiny to fulfill the passions you think God himself personally put into your heart to accomplish in your life for His purposes through the grace of His power and for the glory of His name?” No, that’s not what Your Word says. Somehow every good thing, even every great thing, that You desire from our lives is centered in this: “The only thing that counts is faith working through love.” It’s not faith without love and it’s not love without faith. It’s “faith working through love.”It’s not faith patiently sitting there and just waiting for love to spontaneously happen to us or through us. It’s much more intentional, active, and deliberate than that. It’s “faith working through love.” Faith is trusting You. Love is living for You. And if I truly trust You, I will my live for You in the nature of Your love and by the grace of the power of Your Spirit. This is to be my “hope of righteousness”—my hope to live a life that’s right, in right relationship with You, with one another, and within myself. This is what really counts. This is “the only thing that counts.” And if I focus on getting this right, “through the Spirit, by faith,” then everything else will come into place and flow out of that place of my “faith working through love.” In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays Friends, while I'm away for some rest and vacation with my kids up at my mom's in the mountains of New Mexico, I'd appreciate your prayers that I'll have both wonderful family time and deep personal time with the Lord, to be refreshed and renewed in the time that I have. I pray that same blessing for you! (And for all who have been asking, my son Zach is doing great from the terrible car accident he had on our way out here on the interstate through Oklahoma, all by the miraculous grace of God and protection of His mighty warring angels, bearing him up on eagles' wings without a scratch to his body! But not so much for my faithful Jeep that's carried me many miles in ministry. So please join me in praying for God's perfect provision in that regard).
