Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing - November 30, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, November 30 - Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today. ... “The seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, in Your name even the demons submit to us!’ He said to them, ‘I watched Satan fall from heaven like a flash of lightning. See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing will hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven’” (Luke 10:17-20). The disciples were excited and filled with joy when they saw the power of God being released through their ministry in the authority of the name of Jesus. And You were excited and filled with joy to see the kingdom of Satan being destroyed, as the kingdom of God was coming on earth as it is in heaven: “At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, ‘I thankYou, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was Your gracious will” (v. 21). Yet in all the excitement and joy, You were reminding Your disciples then -- just as You’re still reminding Your disciples today -- to keep “first things first” and that “the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” And the first thing, the main thing, was their personal relationship with You, so that their names were written in heaven. I’m so humbled and excited to see You move in the power of Your love and the authority of Your name through this simple little ministry You’ve entrusted to us at Messiah Ministries. You’ve called us to “prepare the way of the Lord” in peoples’ hearts and in the earth. You’ve called us to “minister the healing love of God” -- especially through the prayer ministry of inner healing and deliverance, what I’ve come to call “healing from the inside out.” And Yet, I’m most humbled and excited to know I’m a child of God, a disciple of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, and that my name is written in heaven. Wow! Thank You, Jesus! So I do believe You’re still rejoicing in the Holy Spirit at the right hand of the Father, “far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the age to come” (Ephesians 1:20). And I do believe that by the mercy of God and the mystery of faith, that I’m also raised up there with You in the Spirit, with heaven in my heart and my name written in heaven, as Your Word proclaims:  “But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ -- by grace you have been saved -- and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:4-7). That’s a little hard to fully comprehend, but it’s not very hard to rejoice in what You’ve done for me! Give me grace and faith to keep living into this joyful truth more every day! That’s the main thing! Thank You, Jesus! Thank You, Father! Thank You, Holy Spirit! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! The Miracle of Hanukkah Fulfilled in the Messiah - November 29, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, November 29 - The Miracle of Hanukkah Fulfilled in the Messiah Good morning, Lord Jesus. Light of the World, let Your Light shine into every area of my heart and through every moment of my day. ... “In Him was Life, and that Life was the Light of all mankind. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:4-5). Throughout the world, the Jewish people are celebrating Hanukkah -- the Festival of Lights -- for when they recaptured Jerusalem and rededicated the temple in 164 BC. A wicked Greek ruler, Antiochus Epiphanes -- self-named “Epiphanes” because he demanded to be worshipped as a god -- had mercilessly persecuted the Jewish people and defiled their temple until the spiritual resistance movement of the Maccabees. It was a miracle defeat of a world ruler by a small band of those who united in their faith of God to overcome the spiritual and political oppression of their times. They restored the golden menorah to the temple, where the oil of the lamp was to burn continually with sanctified oil (Exodus 27:20). But there was only enough sanctified oil to last for one day when they took over the temple from the Greeks. Then by a miracle of God, the oil lasted and burned brightly for eight days until new oil could be gathered and sanctified to burn again in the temple as commanded by Scripture. These are the eight days celebrated as Hannukah -- also called The Festival of Lights or the Feast of Dedication or the Feast of the Maccabees. When You walked this earth on the streets of Jerusalem in human form, You also celebrated this feast: “At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place in Jerusalem; it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple area, in the portico of Solomon. The Jews then surrounded Him and began saying to Him, ‘How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly’ (John 10:22-24). You were, in fact, the Christ, the Messiah of Israel, whom they were seeking to deliver them from their political oppression. But You had come to set them free from their spiritual oppression and open their eyes to see that You were the Light of the World. You replied to their question with the declaration of Your Deity: “I and My Father are One” (John 10:30).  You were the prophetic fulfillment of the very feast they were celebrating: “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life’” (John 8:12). Light of the Word, give us courage to stand firm in our faith in whatever oppression our generation may face in our days. Give us courage to overcome whatever would seek to defile Your temple in our lives -- for now in Christ, our bodies are Your temple (1 Corinthians 6:19) and Your Holy Spirit is the Light that shines through us into the darkness of our world (Matthew 5:14). And the darkness cannot overcome It (John 1:5). “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Shine, Jesus, shine! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! Spiritual Strategy of Thanksgiving and Praise - November 25, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, November 25 - Spiritual Strategy of Thanksgiving and Praise Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- I enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise! ... Thanksgiving to God was the key to the battle the days of King Jehoshaphat: “A great multitude” was against him and his people. “Jehoshaphat was afraid; (so) he set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. Judah assembled to seek help from the Lord; from all the towns of Judah they came to seek the Lord” (2 Chronicles 20:2-4). And as the king and all the people of the land came to seek You and cry out to You, in their fear and distress for Your answer to their great need in the face of this great multitude of their enemies, You spoke to them a word of encouragement through one of Your prophets and gave them the spiritual strategy of thanksgiving and praise: “Meanwhile all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the middle of the assembly. He said, ‘Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not fear or be dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them; they will come up by the ascent of Ziz; you will find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel. This battle is not for you to fight; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.’ Then Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice. They rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, ‘Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God and you will be established; believe His prophets.’ When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the Lord and praise Him in holy splendor, as they went before the army, saying, ‘Give thanks to the Lord,     for His steadfast love endures forever.’ As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the Ammonites, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. For the Ammonites and Moab attacked the inhabitants of Mount Seir, destroying them utterly; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they all helped to destroy one another. When Judah came to the watchtower of the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; they were corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped” (2 Chronicles 20:13-24). The song in hearts of the people that shifted the spiritual atmosphere from fear to victory was a song of thanksgiving -- thanksgiving for the steadfast love of the Lord. Not a song of their might or power, but a song of thanksgiving for the might and power of Your love! It was the power of Your love that cast out their fear and it was the power of Your love that overcome their enemies, as they worshipped You with thanksgiving and praise. Lord, we know there are different strategies for every battle. But let the Spirit of the Lord fall upon us and rise up within us to seek You and worship You with thanksgiving in our hearts for Your love that endures forever. As we sing praise, You move in power, You move in battle on our behalf, You shift the spiritual atmosphere and bring victory out of the grip of defeat to display Your glory in the face of our spiritual enemies. Thank You, Lord! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “One” in the Great Love of God - November 23, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, November 23 - “One” in the Great Love of God Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind and Your desires in my heart. You increase and I decrease, as I seek to surrender my will to Your will and my ways to Your ways -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. ... Just before You went to the cross for every one of us, You prayed that we would be “one” with You and “one” with our Father, just as You and our Father are “one.” In words truly beyond our comprehension on this side of heaven, You prayed: “As You have sent Me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth. I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in Me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. The glory that you have given Me I have given them, so that they may be one, as We are one, I in them and You in Me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.  Father, I desire that those also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am, to see My glory, which you have given Me because You loved Me before the foundation of the world. Righteous Father, the world does not know You, but I know You; and these know that You have sent Me. I made Your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them” (John 17:18-26). The love of the Father united You to the Father as one. And You prayed for that same love of the Father to be in us, uniting us together with You and the Father as one. That oneness of unity in the love of God abiding in us is our witness to the world -- “so that the world may know” that the Father has sent His Son into the world, as that great love of God abides in our hearts (v. 23). My Father God, dear Lord Jesus, give me Your grace to embrace the depths of this incomprehensible love. “God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him” (1 John 4:9). You love us and love through us, as we live through You and You live through us -- abiding in the love You have for us. Lord, open the eyes of our hearts and even the eyes of the world to “See how great a love the Father has given us!” (1 John 3:1 NASB) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Fellowship of the Spirit” - November 22, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, November 22 - “Fellowship of the Spirit” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be exalted in my heart and every moment of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus ...” (Philippians 2:1:5). There’s a “fellowship of the Spirit” that only comes from having the heart and mind of Christ. We’re truly “united in spirit” only when our hearts and minds are “intent on one purpose.”  What is that “one purpose” Lord? ... As I listen and wait for the leading of Your Spirit, what comes to my heart and into my thoughts is this: “Your purpose is to learn to love Me, to trust Me, so that You willingly, joyfully, lovingly entrust Your life to Me and My will, as you allow Me to form My nature in your nature, to make you more like Me every day. The more you see your selfishness replaced by My selflessness, the more you see your self-centered pride replaced by My self-denying humility, you will know you are becoming united with My Spirit and the fellowship of the Spirit I have for all who would embrace this heart and mind in them which was also in Christ Jesus.” ... Yes, Father. Your written Word comes to mind: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification...” (1 Thessalonians 4:3), to be “conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29). “Anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). Unite me with You and with those You’re uniting in “the fellowship of the Spirit” throughout the earth in our generation. Remove the barriers, take down the walls, unite us together, open the eyes of our hearts to see You and to see You in one another (Ephesians 1:18). Let us be “as living stones (who) are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5). Whatever our calling, whatever our job, wherever we’re positioned and placed through every season of our lives, let us do all as unto the Lord, living for You and Your glory and no longer for ourselves and our own glory (Colossians 3:23). “In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of Him who accomplishes all things according to His counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of His glory. Morning by Morning, November 19 - Blueprints of an Apostolic Prayer Center Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be Lord of my spirit, Lord of my soul, Lord of my body. Be Lord of my identity and Lord of my destiny. Be Lord of my gifting and calling and purpose. Be Lord of my relationships, Lord of my protection, Lord of my provision. Be Lord of my past, my present, and my future. Be Lord of all that I have and ever will have. Be Lord of all that I am and ever will be. Be “Lord of all!” (Acts 10:36) ... Last night I had a dream about an apostolic prayer center. That’s the phrase that came to my heart as I woke up. I came out of a room where I had been praying and sensed all kinds of prayer taking place -- intercession for America and the nations of the world, strategic level spiritual warfare, prayers for healing and deliverance on every level of personal lives including past and future generations. I had a sense of teaching, equipping, and training. I thought of the many interrelationships that I have and how all could be connected. But most of all, everything in the atmosphere was saturated in love, worship, and faith. And though the atmosphere was intense with the mission at hand, I felt an empowering sense of joy. “You show me the path of life.     In Your Presence there is fullness of joy;     in Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11) I remembered many words spoken to me about aspects of my calling, including some “blueprints” I would be shown. I don’t know yet if this is a picture of the desires of my own heart coming up to the surface in my sleep, or an idea of a dimension of the end-time Church, or something more specific for the fulfilment of my own calling and destiny in Christ along with those You’ve called me to come alongside for such a time as this. But I’m excited! And I got up early to write this down in prayer before I forgot it! So now I entrust it all back into Your hands. “Apart from (You), I can do nothing” (John 15:5). And I thank You, Lord, for the continuing fulfilment of Your Word spoken through the Prophet Joel and the Apostle Peter, now continuing to go forth today: “In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh,     and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions,     and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon My slaves, both men and women,     in those days I will pour out My Spirit;         and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above     and signs on the earth below,         blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness     and the moon to blood,         before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:17-21). As I start my day, I’m excited to be chosen to be alive in these exciting but intense days, as we pray for “the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
