Morning by Morning, November 9 - Morning by Morning in Contemplative Prayer
Good morning, Lord Jesus. You said, “Abide in Me as I abide in you” (John 15:4). Your Word says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8) and “When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). And so I do -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. ...
These first moments of my morning in contemplative prayer -- waiting for the leading of Your Spirit, meditating on the Word of God You bring to mind -- is my way of abiding in You, drawing near to You, and seeking You will all my heart.
“Morning by morning, He wakens -- wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught” (Isaiah 50:4). As it’s said in The Message, “He wakes me up in the morning -- wakes me up, opens my ears to listen as one ready to take orders.”
What are Your orders today, my Lord and Savior? ...
What comes to my heart is this: “Follow Me. As you follow Me, you will abide in Me. As you abide in Me, you will follow Me. As you walk in My steps, You learn My ways. Then your ways become like My ways, as your heart becomes like My heart.” ...
Yes, Lord. Your Written Word comes to mind to confirm what I believe I’m hearing in my heart as Your spoken word: “Anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). “Thus He has given us, through these things, His precious and very great promises, so that through them (we) may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). As You are, so are we to be in this world (1 John 4:17).
Thank You, my Father, that I am a child of God (Romans 8:16), being led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14), and being conformed into the image of the Son of God (Romans 8:29). It’s all by Your grace, as I seek to entrust myself to You, to follow You, to abide in You, to unite with You, and become more like You -- morning by morning, step by step, from glory to glory.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
