Morning by Morning, May 30 - Personal Pentecost Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... We’ve just returned from central Mexico, finishing a week of ministry there in a different church every night, sharing the message and ministry of inner healing, spiritual freedom, and life transformation through the love of our Father, experiencing the Presence of Jesus, and encountering the power of the Holy Spirit to heal the brokenhearted and set the captives free in Your mighty name. On Sunday, I was blessed to speak a message of Your power and love at two different churches on Pentecost Sunday to complete our mission. What came to my heart was an invitation for our personal Pentecost -- a deeply personal encounter with the Holy Spirit of the Living God -- first cleansing our hearts and then filling our hearts. Not just one day but every day. You had promised Your disciples just before Your return to Heaven, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). You told them, “You shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (v. 5). Then between that day and the day of Pentecost to come, the day they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit and be indued with power to be Your witnesses, at home and to the ends of the earth, they joined together in prayer and in pursuit of what You had promised (v. 13). They didn’t just wait around or go their separate ways. They got together and prayed. They pressed into the promises of God. They actively pursued the Presence and the power of Your Holy Spirit. “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting!” (Acts 2:1-2) Come, Holy Spirit! Come stir within each one of us a hunger and a passion to pursue Your Presence and Your power -- power to be witnesses of Jesus in our homes and everywhere You send us every day of our lives. May we passionately pursue our personal Pentecost. Set us ablaze with tongues of fire and hearts ablaze with a passion for You and all You send us to do (v. 3). May we declare “the wonderful works of God” with our words and with our lives, filled up and overflowing with the Spirit of the Living God! (v. 11) Burn everything out of us that is not yet like You. And fill us up with the One who comes to make us more like You every day. May we be emptied out so we can be filled up -- filled up and overflowing -- from hearts that have been healed and freed and set on fire from our personal Pentecost with You. Not just one day but every day. This is the command and the promise of Your prophetic words: “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). “(Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire!” (Matthew 3:11). “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem (which is to say to us in our city right wherever we are) until you are endued with power from on high!” (Luke 24:49) In Jesus’ name I pray.
