Morning by Morning, September 19 - Repentance and Renewal During the Days of Awe   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today. ...   “Let all the earth fear the Lord;     let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him!” (Psalm 33:8)   On the rhythms of the Biblical calendar, these are the “Ten Days of Awe” between the New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). And all the feasts, just like all the Law and the Prophets and all of Scripture, are ultimately fulfilled in You -- our Savior and Sovereign Lord, the Living Word of God (Matthew 5:17; John 1:14).   So as we remember these days on our spiritual journey, we remember their purpose. These “appointed festivals of the Lord” are times of repentance and renewed commitment, of searching our hearts as we seek first Your kingdom, in the reverent fear and awe of the Lord our God (Leviticus 23:1-44; Matthew 6:33).   It's a time and season to intentionally remember that You are God and we are not. You are the Sovereign One, the Mighty One, the Awesome One who alone is to have first place in our hearts and every area of our lives. No idols. No unholy altars. No soulish entanglements. No forbidden strongholds. No uncrucified flesh.   Instead, our eyes are on You. Our hearts are open wide to You. Our perspective of attitude of humility and holiness of heart and life is to willingly choose to be desperately dependent upon You alone as the Source of all the grace we need because apart from You we can do nothing (John 15:5).   So we look to You. We honor and fear You in greater reverence, even as we draw near to You in deeper intimacy.   We stand in awe of You. We bow low in awe of You. We lift up our hands and hearts in worship and praise in awe of You. And by Your Spirit abiding within us every day, every day becomes a day of awe, when we choose to live in awe of You (Romans 8:9). “For God is working in (us), giving (us) the desire and the power to do what pleases Him” (Philippians 2:13).   Awesome God, be at work within me and in everyone who stands in awe of You, that we may have the desire and the power to do what pleases You and honors You this day and every day. “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him” (Psalm 33:8).
