Morning by Morning, September 5 - The Obedience of Faithfulness Begins in the Intimacy of Prayerfulness Good morning, Lord Jesus. Waiting on the leading of Your Holy Spirit, resting in the arms of my Father, I’m listening and abiding in Your Presence. ... “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7-8). These morning moments of deep communion with You are when the roots of my relationship with You grow deep within me. My eyes are on You. My spirit is lifted up to You. My heart is opened up to You. I draw near to You and You draw near to me (James 4:8). For Your sheep hear Your voice and follow Your leading (John 10:27). For the sons of God are those who are led by the Spirit of God (Romans 8:14). And I long to be one of Your sons of God, one of Your children of God, growing up into spiritual maturity as I’m growing deeper in spiritual intimacy. “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19). And the by the power of Your grace at work within me, I yearn to be revealed in Your eyes as one of them. So keep drawing me near, helping me hear. Keep giving me patience to wait and courage to follow. You’ve called me to walk in Your steps on my spiritual journey to maturity (1 Peter 2:21). As I press into Your Presence and listen in the silence, I hear You speaking to my spirit: “Your obedience to follow in faithfulness begins here in the intimacy of your prayerfulness.” ... Yes, Lord. ... As Your first disciples said, so I say, “Lord, teach (me) to pray” (Luke 11:1). Lord give me a deeper desire to pray. Fan the flames of my spirit into a fire of desire for Your Presence that I can’t resist, that I can’t help but pursue at any cost. Take my roots down so deep that the fruit that Your bear through my life will never cease. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
