Morning by Morning, September 12 - No Room for Regrets Here in the Dawn of a New Day Good morning, Lord Jesus. Here in the communion of prayer, help me begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... As I wait, I hear in my heart, “No regrets. No frets. No pity parties from mistakes and missteps of the past. It’s a new day. A new day dawning. Seize the day.” ... This Scripture comes to mind right away: “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18-19). What comes to me is that sometimes I get tempted to get stuck in a cycle of regret. I start thinking of something I should have said or something I shouldn’t have said, something I did or failed to do -- something I regret. And I catch myself in my mind saying things like: “If only....” and “Man, I’m such a ....” and “Why didn’t I just....” or “I can’t believe I did that....” I can find myself taking a ticket on the train to nowhere of “Woulda, shoulda, coulda” and pretty soon I’m running out of steam for what I need to be thinking about and doing today -- all by the power of Your grace. But in Your mercy and love, You remind me of the power of a new day dawning. A clean slate. A fresh start. An invitation to embrace the new thing You have for me today. You bring up in my spirit eternal Words You have already sown there, ready to rise up and bring forth a harvest of peace and confidence and security in You, with hope for a new day and expectant faith for all You will do. Words like: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1-2). And one of my all-time Favorites that always lifts my spirit and sets my sights on the new day You’ve set before me: “But I call this to mind, and therefore I have hope. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!” (Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV). ... Yes, Lord. Now grounded in Your Word. Now filled with Your Spirit. I’m ready to embrace the dawn of the new day. “One thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus!” (Philippians 3:13-14)
No room for regrets here in the dawn of a new day! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
