Morning by Morning, September 20 - Take Possession of “The Land” Entrusted to Us Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear what’s on Your heart for my life today (John 10:27). ... “After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: ‘Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them--the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses” (Joshua 1:1-3). Thank You for “the land” which You have given us. Thank You for the territory You’ve set before us. Let us “arise” and “go” and set the soles of our feet everywhere You would send us. Your kingdom come. You will be done. Here on earth, here in our hearts, here in “the land” You’ve entrusted to us to extend Your kingdom and glorify Your name. In the heavenly realm, it’s already done. In the heavenly realm, it’s already accomplished by the finished work of The Cross. Now let it be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3). You already have blessed us with every spiritual blessing, with the fullness of our inheritance -- “in the heavenly places,” in the heavenly realm. And now, at the same time, You call us and command us to “arise” and “go” take possession of “the land" in the earthly places of our inheritance, of all You’ve already given to us, as we go forth in obedience to Your command. Your part has been to give us “the land.” Our part is to go and set the soles of our feet upon the land, all by the power of Your grace, but also, at the same time, in obedience to Your command. Apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). And by the grace of God, we’re never apart from You as we carry You in our hearts wherever we go (Matthew 28:20). In the timing of Your Spirit, Moses had to die for Joshua to go forward. In a way, like a type and shadow, that’s a picture of the timing of Your Spirit in our lives. Our flesh has to die, our “old man” has to die, in order for our spirit of the next generation to go forward into the new day, the new season, the fullness of our inheritance in You. So Lord, crucify my flesh. Let me die to myself. Let me “die daily” to any of my will apart from Your will, that my spirit can arise and go in the power of Your Spirit into “the land” of my inheritance (1 Corinthians 15:31). Let me come to the place that I can declare in truth what the Apostle Paul was able to say: “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). Then truly I can “arise” and ‘go” and take possession of “the land” of my inheritance in You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
