Morning by Morning, March 12 - “Partakers of the Divine Nature” by the Grace and the Will of God Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth, as I seek to be more like You today (1 John 4:17). ... “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:2-4). It's only by the grace of God, in the mystery of faith, that we can be “partakers of the divine nature.” We don’t every become divine, of course. But we do become more and more like You, as we entrust more of our nature to Your nature, more of our will to Your will, as our thoughts become more like Your thoughts and our desires become more like You desires. Step by step on our spiritual journey, layer by layer on our inner transformation, we’re being conformed into the image of the Son of God, as we entrust ourselves as children of God to You as our Father God (Romans 8:29). As we behold You, set our hearts on You, turn our faces toward You, You are changing us by Your Spirit into Your image “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Your Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, growing up to maturity, secure in our identity, finding our authority, fulfilling our destiny, by the grace of God (Romans 8:16). So come, Holy Spirit. Help me in my human weakness with Your divine power (Romans 8:26). I can’t do it, but You can. I can’t even desire it apart from You imparting Your desires in my heart and Your thoughts in my mind. But I can say “Yes, Lord” to allow You to have Your way in me. I can make the choice -- as best as I can and all by Your grace -- to live by the Spirit rather than by the flesh (Romans 8:13) and to be led by Your Spirit instead of led by my flesh. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). In this way and all by the power of Your grace at work within me, I willingly choose to embrace Your calling and Your “exceedingly great and precious promises” to become one of Your “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). “For it is God who works in (me) both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). “For (You are) working in (me), giving (me) the desire and the power to do what pleases (You)” (NLT), as You keep changing my character into Your character and my nature into Your nature.
