Morning by Morning, March 4 - Spiritual Fervor and the Strength of Supernatural Youth Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let Your light shine in me; let Your love flow through me. Send me where You will and have Your will in my life today -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... I’ve had a few days now to rest up from my three-week ministry trip to India. (Before my wife Rocio and I leave later this week on our next ministry trip to Ohio). And I’m reflecting on how You have blessed me and given me so much strength and stamina, by Your mercy and grace under the anointing of God, covered by dear friends in prayer, to preach and pray and minister every day for those three weeks. I could barely speak my name at the airline flight counter the early morning of the last day to leave for home, but had the blessing of preaching boldly to the very last sermon and praying the very last prayer for the very last person on the very last night of ministry to finish with a flourish of Your power and love. Thank You, Lord! The words of Caleb come to mind, as he thanked You for his inheritance at the end of his season of ministry. He was eighty-five years old but still had the strength of spirit, soul, and body that he had at forty. As Caleb reflected on all You had done, he said: “I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart. Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in” (Joshua 14:7-11). I too thank You for the strength of supernatural youth and spiritual fervor that burns like a fire in my belly. Though I’m 62 today and maybe my belly is a little fatter than it was at 40, I thank You and praise You for giving me a passion for You and for the people and nations You would touch through this ministry You’ve entrusted to me all these years. And for the many more years to come! Or at least for the years to come before You come again! I’m not foolish enough or prideful enough to think any of this is from my own power or wisdom. Just the opposite. Apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). And I praise You that I’m never apart from You, for You’re always with me, abiding by Your Spirit within me, every moment of every day (John 15:4). Let me use the blessing of this spiritual youth and strength and fervor well for You and Your kingdom all the days of my life. As one who, like Caleb, lived to fight many battles, to overcome many sins, and to express his faith to You until the day he went on to glory expressed in his prayers: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!” (Psalm 23:6) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
