Morning by Morning, July 17 - “Grace Under Fire” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Arise in my heart and speak through my life today, as we each do our part as our part of the body of Christ each day (1 Corinthians 12:27). ... As I wait for Your leading, what comes to my heart are these words: “Grace under fire.” ... What comes out of us in times of pressure, in the unexpected moments, in the extraordinary encounters--our words, our actions, our reactions--reveal much of what’s in our hearts and what’s been formed in our character. And these are the times to display the grace of God in our lives--whether by our deliberate choices in the moment or by the reflexive choices that are displayed from what’s already been established inside of us through our former deliberate choices. For all our choices, whether deliberate or not, are on display for the world to see. You said it this way: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16). Help me make right choices today, by the power of Your grace at work within me. Help me have Your truth settled in my heart, Your character formed in my nature, that in the moments of surprise, in the moments that are far out of my control, the light You’ve formed in me will shine before men and my Father in heaven may be glorified in me. I pray the same for every one of Your sons and daughters of God. May we each display “grace under fire” in whatever encounters we face. We may not all take a bullet to side of our face, but we all face the bullets of words, the persecution of faith, the taunting of our values in various forms and to varying degrees throughout the battles of our lives. So prepare our hearts now, develop our character now, that we may glorify You on that day of our challenge to display Your grace under fire. As Your Word encourages us through the witness of those who have gone before us in the past, just as we’re inspired by the witness of those who live by grace before us today: “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:6-9). Through the “various trials” I may ever endure, I embrace Your grace now to develop “the genuineness of (my) faith” so that whenever I’m “tested by fire” I may display Your “grace under fire” coming out of me to the “praise, honor, and glory” of Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. In the love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
Tommy, may you be empowered by the grace of God developing His character in you to let His Light so shine through you with grace under fire in whatever challenges you endure, in Jesus' name. Amen. God bless you, my friend! And you have a great day!
