Morning by Morning, July 10 - “Led by the Spirit of God” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening for Your leading in the communion of prayer--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). By the power of Your grace at work within me, help me learn to be led. Help me learn to focus on You with my spirit lifted up to You and my heart opened up to You. Help me learn to get quiet to listen and look, to watch and wait, and then to follow and obey. ... As I listen this morning, what I hear in my heart is this: “Come, follow Me. Let Me put My thoughts in your mind and My desires in your heart. Receive the mind of Christ. Embrace the heart of the Father. Follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Your part is to seek, to listen, to obey, as We lead. Our part is to lead you in all you do, secure in who you are as a child of God.” ... Yes, Lord. These words that are coming to my heart ring true to my spirit. And as I ponder what I believe I’m hearing in my heart, Your written Word comes to mind in confirmation of Your spoken words: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit” (Romans 8:5). “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:15-17). “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:2-3). “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). Thank You for speaking into my spirit Your words of spirit and life. As You said long ago, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Just now, I’m reminded of what my friend and a mentor in the faith, Max Lucado, says so often, “The One who came still comes and the One who spoke still speaks.” Now that I’m hearing what You’re speaking, help me to be obeying and following Your leading. As Your written Word commands: “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Yes, Lord--as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
