Morning by Morning, July 9 - “Repair the Ruined Cities” Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I draw close to You in the communion of prayer, guide my heart and my words in worship of You--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ... Yesterday, the hurricane hit Texas, lashing out with floods of fury across the coast and up into the eastern part of our state. Checking in with friends and family along the path, none of them were injured or killed, but there’s much damage and destruction to repair and rebuild. And our hearts go out to those in the storm’s earlier path out a sea who fared far worse and any damage yet to come. What comes to mind are Your Words of rebuilding: “And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations” (Isaiah 61:4). I pray for Your mercy and grace upon all who will be repairing the ruined cities. May You release Your courage and compassion, Your wisdom and strength. Bring neighbors and communities together to overcome the tragedies and challenges. We live in a broken, fallen world full of the effects of the generations ever since the fall of mankind. Hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, floods, droughts, famines, and more. Creation itself “eagerly waits” to “be delivered from the bondage of corruption” as it “groans and labors with birth pangs together until now” (Romans 8:20-22). But a day of redemption and restoration is coming. And we “eagerly wait for it with perseverance” (v. 25). Come, Lord Jesus! Yet every day between this day and that day to come, You’re with us in it all, even in what You did not cause directly, You’re actively at work in it all to cause it all to work together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28). So give us grace to learn to love, learn to trust, learn to overcome, even as we “rebuild” and “repair” the “ruins” and “desolations” in whatever form they come into our lives. We can’t do any of that in any lasting way at all apart from You (John 15:5). But we praise You, Lord God, that we’re not apart from You. You’re with us through it all (Isaiah 43:2), You’re with us “always” (Matthew 28:20). And today, would You be with all those in a special manifestation of Your Presence who need to know Your encouragement and hope in these days of rebuilding and restoration of all that’s been ruined. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
