Morning by Morning, February 10, 2025 - “Pick Up Your Sword!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I seek Your face, Your mercy and grace, as I begin my day grounded in Your Word and filled with Your Spirit (Psalm 27:7). ... As I wait for Your leading, I hear this in my heart: “Pick up your sword!” ... Yes, Lord. What immediately comes to mind is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). It’s part of “the whole armor of God, that (I) may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). And right after the command to take up “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” is the command of the next Verse, calling me to be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (v. 18). So by the power of Your grace, I pick up my sword. I take hold of “the word of God”—both Your written Word and Your spoken word. And with the eyes of my heart, I see myself grabbing the handle of a mighty sword and I see myself beginning to pray “in the Spirit.” It’s as I’m praying “in the Spirit” that I’m empowered to lift up my sword. What’s coming to me in this revelation You’re emphasizing is how important it is to be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” so that I can pick up my sword to engage my battles. And my battles are not only my own in my own personal realm but also my battles in prayer “with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.” This battle is bigger than me. And this battle is more than I engage and overcome with my own words, my own wisdom, my own weapons. I need Yours! I need Your Word and Your Spirit. And I need to be praying always with my spirit in active communion with Your Spirit as I’m praying “in the Spirit.” Thank You, Lord. Let the Spirit of the Lord arise in my spirit! Let the Word of God arise in my mouth! Let me take up the whole armor of God, as I go about my day in communion with You in the Spirit with You. In “the whole armor of God” I will “be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (v. 11). And I will “be strong in the Lord and in the power of (Your) might” (v. 10). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
