Nothing But Jesus... - September 16, 2020

 Morning by Morning, September 16 - Nothing But Jesus...

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I'm listening for Your leading, to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...

Higher,
Deeper,
Wider,
More than I've ever known.

Longer,
Farther,
Way out yonder,
Beyond where I've ever gone.

Holding nothing back.
Never turning back.
Allowing nothing to hold me back.

No religious rules.
No traditions of men.
No conformity to the controlling culture of these times.
No compromise with the corruption of this world.

Nothing but Jesus abiding in me,
And my life abounding in Him.

"Who the Son sets free is free indeed!" (John 8:36) "It is for freedom that Christ has set (me) free" -- free to follow You, free to surrender my life completely to You and become more like You, more every day -- step by step, morning by morning, day by day (Galatians 5:1). Free to be like Jesus (Romans 8:29; 1 John 4:17). "Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is" (1 John 3:2).

Nothing but Jesus abiding in me,
And my life abounding in Him.

"When Christ who is (my) life is reveled, then (I) also will be revealed with Him in glory.... And whatever (I) do, in word or in deed, (I) do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Colossians 3:4-17).

I want nothing more. I'll settle for nothing less.

Nothing but Jesus abiding in me,
and my life abounding in Him.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be free to be like Jesus -- nothing but Jesus abiding in you and your life abounding in Him, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

My Savior and Source of All I Need - September 15, 2020

 Morning by Morning, September 15 - My Savior and Source of All I Need

Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Lord and Savior -- and all that means through every moment of my day. ...

My Light when I am lost,
My Hope when I'm afraid,
My Help when I am hurt,
My Voice when I can't speak,
My Rock when I can't stand,
My Rope when I'm in deep,
My Sail when I can't move,
My Shield when I can't duck,
My Friend when I'm alone,
My God when no one else and nothing less could ever be.

You're my All in All when I'm all out of all my options and I'm all done with trying to do it all myself in my own way (Colossians 3:11).

You're all I ever need. And You're always here with me (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5-6).

I hear You saying in my heart, "Look to no one but Me. Seek no Source but Me. I provide and I supply through many means, but I am the Source of all You need. Trust and see that I am worthy of your trust and a rewarder of those who seek Me." ...

Yes, Lord. As I ponder Your words, this Word comes to mind: "Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).

For my nation that seems so out of control, I seek You. For my needs that seem out of my hands, I seek You. For the deepest longing of my soul, for the farthest reaches of my dreams, for all that I need and I all that I am and all that I'm created and called to be, I seek You. ...

And as I seek You, I find strength and courage and peace in the Promise of Your Word: "For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. Then when you call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will hear you. When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart, I will let you find Me, says the Lord..." (Jeremiah 29:11-13). There's restoration and redemption, forgiveness and mercy, faithfulness and fulfillment for all who humble themselves to call on Your name, to seek Your face, and embrace Your grace (Jeremiah 29:14).

For me and my house, for my nation and my world, as far as Your grace will go, I turn to You and trust in You as the only true Source of all we need. You alone are God and there is no other (Isaiah 45:5). "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). You are my Savior and my Salvation, my Source of all I need and all that means -- here in my heart and every moment of my day and for every struggling soul here in my world. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you trust in the One who is your Savior and Source of all you need and the rewarder of all who seek Him, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Chaos and Anarchy Not the Character of God - September 14, 2020

 Morning by Morning, September 14 - Chaos and Anarchy Not the Character of God

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my heart and listen up for Your leading, seeking to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit. ...

"For thus says the Lord,
who created the heavens
    (He is God!),
who formed the earth and made it
    (He established it;
He did not create it a chaos,
    He formed it to be inhabited!):
I am the Lord, and there is no other.
I did not speak in secret,
    in a land of darkness;
I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,
    'Seek Me in chaos.'
I the Lord speak the truth,
    I declare what is right" (Isaiah 45:18-19).

You're not the author of chaos or confusion. It's not Your character to cause anarchy. You speak the truth; You declare what's right. You bring order, even as You allow freedom (1 Corinthians 14:39-40). You fulfill law and order, even as You lavish us with mercy and grace (Matthew 5:17).

So come and speak Light in the midst of our darkness. Come and speak Life in the midst of our destruction.

You alone are our Savior. You alone are our Hope. And You alone can bring order out of chaos, stability out of insecurity, to set things right when we let You write Your law on our hearts and guide our steps by Your Spirit. You stretch out Your hand to all who will take it and open up Your heart to all who will receive it, calling out to the nation who will hear:

There is no other God besides Me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
    there is no one besides Me.
Turn to Me and be saved,
    all the ends of the earth!
    For I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn,
    from My mouth has gone forth in righteousness
    a word that shall not return:
'To Me every knee shall bow,
    every tongue shall swear.'
Only in the Lord, it shall be said of Me,
    are righteousness and strength" (Isaiah 45:21-24).

Yes, Lord. We turn to You, in desperation and faith, in repentance and prayer, in humble trust in the goodness of Your character and the mercy of Your love. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may the law of the Lord be written on your heart and and the order of His ways be established in your life, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

One King. One Kingdom. - September 11, 2020

 Morning by Morning, September 11 - One King. One Kingdom.

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up, here in my heart and every moment of my day.

"Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, 'The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!'" (Revelation 11:15)

On "9-11" I always remember the day the towers fell and all who lost their lives that day, when all our lives were forever changed from that day forth.

But as that infamous scene comes to mind this morning, I also see with the eyes of my heart towers and buildings all around the world coming down. And this Scripture comes to mind of the time to come when all the "towers" of this world, all the places that are high and lifted up in our hearts and our world that would take the place that You alone are to have, come falling down.

There will come a day when "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ." There is one King and one Kingdom. And there is only One who will rule and reign forever and ever. "Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end" (Isaiah 9:7). "He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end" (Luke 1:33). "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one that shall never be destroyed" (Daniel 7:14).

There will come a day when "we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.' So then each of us will give an account of himself to God" (Romans 14:10-12). In that day, the Word You spoke through Your prophet Isaiah of this day to come will be fulfilled, "I have sworn by Myself; the word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return,  that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall take an oath" (Isaiah 45:23). All will be fulfilled in Christ, for "Every knee shall bow ... and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:9-11).

One King. One Kingdom.

And all the towers and kingdoms of this world will fall before the One who is "King of Kings and Lord of Lords" (Revelation 19:16), before the One who is "Lord of All" (Romans 10:12; Acts 10:36). All will bow before the One who alone is worthy of it all (Revelation 4:11). In that day, the kingdoms of this world will have become the kingdom of our God and of His Christ (Revelation 11:15).

Lord, as I bow before You and confess before my world, let the kingdom of my heart become Your kingdom today. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may the King of Kings and Lord of Lords rule and and reign in your heart and in our world, in Jesus name. Please pray the same for me. And I join with you and all the world as we remember those who lost their lives and loved ones on that tragic day of September 11, 2001. God bless you, my friend!

In Repentance, Returning, and Rest We Shall Be Saved - September 10, 2020

 Morning by Morning, September 10 - In Repentance, Returning, and Rest We Shall Be Saved

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my thoughts, here at the beginning of my day. ...

You're always inviting us to more fully trust in You alone. You're always calling us to come out of the world and come to You. You're always setting before us the choice of life or death, blessing or curse, trusting in You or trusting in our ourselves, giving in to the ways of the world or seeking to walk in the ways of God. And Your heart is always that we would repent and return and rest in You, that we might receive all Your mercy and love for all of us. But the choice is ours.

A strong word of warning comes to my heart today. As You spoke to Your children in Israel, so You're speaking to Your children in our day. You assured them that "in returning and rest you shall be saved" (Isaiah 30:15), but first warned them not to "reject this word" (Isaiah 30:12). You warned them of what was to come if they would not turn their hearts to You alone as the Source of their provision and protection for themselves, for their children, and for their nation:

"Go now, write it before them on a tablet,
    and inscribe it in a book,
so that it may be for the time to come
    as a witness forever.
For they are a rebellious people,
    faithless children,
children who will not hear
    the instruction of the Lord;
who say to the seers, 'Do not see';
    and to the prophets, 'Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
    prophesy illusions,
leave the way, turn aside from the path,
    let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.'
Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel:
Because you reject this word,
    and put your trust in oppression and deceit,
    and rely on them;
therefore this iniquity shall become for you
    like a break in a high wall, bulging out, and about to collapse,
    whose crash comes suddenly, in an instant;
its breaking is like that of a potter's vessel
    that is smashed so ruthlessly
that among its fragments not a sherd is found
    for taking fire from the hearth,
    or dipping water out of the cistern.
For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:
In returning and rest you shall be saved;
    in quietness and in trust shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:8-15).

In Your mercy and love, pour out Your Spirit of repentance and return upon our land and into our hearts. Let us find no "rest" in our own strength, our own wisdom, our own power, our own provision, our own ways that are apart from You -- for "apart from You, (we) can do nothing" (John 15:4). Apart from You, even what we think are our most righteous deeds are only as filthy rags in Your sight (Isaiah 64:6).

We need You, Lord -- now, more than ever before. Awaken us from our slumber. Bring us to our knees. Call us to call upon the name of the Lord, that we may be saved. For only in "returning and rest" shall "(we) shall be saved." But as we do, then "in quietness and in trust" You "shall be (our) Strength" (Isaiah 30:15).

For those who repent and return and rest in You, there is mercy. As You spoke of Your promise and the blessing to the children of Israel, even in the midst of their rebellion and pride, seeking to rely upon themselves instead of fully trusting in You alone, You were always so ready and willing to pour out Your mercy upon them and their land if they would only turn to You and call on Your name:

"Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you;
    therefore He will rise up to show mercy to you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
    blessed are all those who wait for Him" (Isaiah 30:18).

As You declared this message of hope through Isaiah in his day, so You continue to declare this message of hope in ours:

"Truly, O people of Zion, inhabitants of Jerusalem, you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide Himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:19-21).

Father, in the name of Jesus, may we hear the call of Your Holy Spirit in our day, in our hearts, and in our land. "This is the way; walk in it. This is My heart for you; turn to Me and embrace it. In repentance and return, you will find your rest and your strength in Me." ...

Yes, Lord. Let it be so, here in our hearts, here in our land, here in our day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Lord Jesus, make me more like You each day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
