 Morning by Morning, October 19 - He Delights to Give Me the Desires of My Heart

 
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my life and every moment of my day. ...
 
"Trust in the Lord, and do good;
    so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.
Take delight in the Lord,
    and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in Him, and He will act.
He will make your vindication shine like the light,
    and the justice of your cause like the noonday" (Psalm 37:3-6).
 
You entrust the desires of my heart to me as I entrust my heart to Your desires. You commit to act for me as I commit my ways to You.
 
It's all a question of trust. Do I trust You to know what's best for me? Do I trust that in surrendering all, I actually gain all -- all that is good and right and best for me and the lives You would touch and love through me during this little sliver of time I have to make a difference in my world. 
 
The more I trust You, the more I'm willing to surrender to You. And the more I surrender to You, the more I find I can trust You, and then surrender even more to You. More of You, less of me -- "less of me" in the sense of yielding my will to Your will and allowing Your ways to become my ways and Your desires to become my desires. That's how You can delight in giving me the desires of my heart, as my heart learns to take delight in You.
 
By the power of Your grace at work within me, teach my heart to delight in You. Empower me to trust in Your ways. Make me wise to trust in Your wisdom. Free me to surrender more to Your will. By the promise of Your Word, You will move and You will act as I commit my way to You and trust in You.
 
I can't do any of this on my own or in my power. But setting aside my pride, willingly choosing to humble myself in Your sight, You will lift me up and set things right -- here in my heart and every area of my life. Then I will witness You giving me the desires of my heart, just as You said. Then I will sense You delighting in me, as I delight in You. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

Lifted Up! - October 16, 2020

 Morning by Morning, October 16 - Lifted Up!

 
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Make me more like You today. ...
 
"The Spirit lifted me up, and brought me into the inner court; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple" (Ezekiel 43:5).
 
Come, Holy Spirit of the Living God. Come lift me up into the inner court, into the intimate place of Your Presence in deep communion with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Let the glory of Your Manifest Presence fill this temple of my heart, to begin my day lifted up in Your embrace.
 
When my kids were young, one of their favorite things was to stop over and stay in a motel along the way of our journeys. The best part was the swimming pool. They loved for me to shoot them up into the air, out of the water, as high as I could throw them. They would say over and over again, "Do it again, Dad! Shoot me up like a rocket!" We'd do that forever it seemed, at least until Mission Control at Houston got worn out from launching those rockets.
 
And I was thinking this morning how You're a Father who loves to lift us up and launch us high into all You have for us. You love to hear us giggle with delight at the thrill of the adventure. You love to give us the desires of heart whenever You can, maybe even just to see the smile on our faces and hear the joy in our voices, excited for You to do it again and again and again. And You're a Daddy, a good, good Father -- our Abba Father -- who never wears out and never gets tired of giving good gifts to Your children (Romans 8:15; Matthew 7:11).
 
My Father, You lift me up. You shoot me high into the sky, like a rocket. You have in Your heart to do exceedingly, abundantly far more than I can even ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him!" (1 Corinthians 2:9) Do it again, Daddy Abba, my Father God! Shoot me up like a rocket today! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

 Morning by Morning, October 15 - The Beauty of His Holiness and Intimacy of His Presence

 
Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my eyes and open up my heart to enter into deep communion with You, here in these first moments of my morning -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
 
"Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth!" (Psalm 96:9)
 
Having dinner with friends, we found ourselves talking about the Lord and all You're goodness and mercy through different challenges of each of our lives. We began to speak of intimacy with You and suddenly You were there, intimately with us. In waves of words in Your Spirit with waves of words of interpretation and understanding, we experienced a deeply intimate visitation with You. One being deeply moved kept quietly, lovingly speaking, "You're so beautiful. You're so beautiful. You're so beautiful...."
 
O Lord, You are so beautiful. And in the beauty of Your mercy and love, You love to draw near to us as we seek to draw near to You (James 4:8). As we open up our hearts to You, You pour Your love into our hearts by Your Spirt. "Hope does not disappoint us, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us" (Romans 5:5).
 
As I open up my heart to Your Spirit this morning, it seems I hear You speaking in my heart: "My son, as you behold the beauty of My holiness and seek to pursue the intimacy of My love, what is beautiful to Me is the heart of one who wholly surrenders your heart to Me. The more deeply you surrender, the more intimately you'll experience the depths of My love -- My love for you and for every one of My children. Each one of you, in that moment of surrender and trust and love, will know you are Mine and I am yours." ...
 
As I ponder and discern what I believe I hear as Your word in my heart, this Word of Your Scripture comes to mind: "My beloved is mine and I am his" (Song of Solomon 2:16). ...
 
Yes, Lord. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I welcome Your Spirit into my heart and every moment of my day. Even as I arise and go about my day, may my spirit never leave this place of deep intimacy with Your Spirit -- spirit to Spirit, heart to Heart, deep to Deep. Help me keep trusting even more, surrendering even more, experiencing the intimacy of Your love and the beauty of Your holiness even more. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

"Today We Choose Life" - October 14, 2020

 Morning by Morning, October 14 - "Today We Choose Life"

 
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Guide my steps along Your path of life today -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
 
"Then Jesus declared, "I AM the Bread of Life" (John 6:23).
 
Today we choose Life. Today we choose to honor and affirm and defend those who choose Life.
 
And we thank You for the life You've given each of us. For "the Spirit gives life" (John 6:63). From the moment of our conception in our mother's womb until our last breath in these earthly bodies and on into eternity in our resurrected life in You, we thank You for Your gift of life to us.
 
May we honor this life. Cherish this life. Fight for the right for every life created in their mother's womb to be birthed and to breathe their first breath and live into the life You've chosen for each to live.
 
"For You created my inmost being;
    You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    Your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from You
    when I was made in the secret place,
    when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
    all the days ordained for me were written in Your book
    before one of them came to be" (Psalm 139:13-16).
 
Thank You for life, Lord. Thank You for the abundance and fulfillment of life You have for each of us. As You said in Your Word, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that (you) may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).
 
Today I choose to stand up and speak out for the life of every soul created and chosen to live out every day ordained for them to live, just as written in Your Book. And today, in the name of Jesus who is Life, I choose to stand against the thief, in every form presented in my world, who come only to steal and kill and destroy. Today I choose Life and I choose to honor life, in the power and authority of Your name. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
