Living “the Unforced Rhythms” of God’s Grace - August 17, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, August 17 - Living “the Unforced Rhythms” of God’s Grace   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Take me by my heart and lead me by Your Spirit into all You have for me today. ...   As I wait, this Word comes to mind:   “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls’” (Matthew 11:28-29).   As Your Words are translated in The Message:   “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to Me. Get away with Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with Me and work with Me--watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with Me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” (Matthew 11:28-30 The Message).   Help me “learn the unforced rhythms of grace,” Lord. Help me learn to flow with You, to flow with Your Spirit, to flow with the River of Your Grace moving me through the moments of my day.   Put Your thoughts in my mind. Put Your desires in my heart. Put Your words in my mouth. Put Your steps in my feet. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). The “sons of God” -- sons and daughters of the Living God, our Father God, through the Blood of Jesus and the Life of the Holy Spirit -- are led by You, abiding in You, resting in You, trusting in You, flowing with You by Your Spirit within us.   That’s living day by day, step by step, test by test, challenge by challenge, opportunity by opportunity, moment by moment in “the unforced rhythms of grace.” And “(Your) grace is sufficient for (me), for (Your) strength is made perfect in (my) weakness ... that the power of Christ may rest upon me.... For when I am weak, the I am strong” -- when I am fully surrendered to Your will, fully led by Your Spirit, fully resting in Your grace and Your power and Your wisdom and Your way each step of my way -- then I am strong in all that need and all that I am (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Then I am “more than (a) conqueror” because the One who has conquered all is living in me (Romans 8:37). “Christ in (me), the hope of glory!” (Colossians 1:27) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Morning by Morning, August 15 - Opened Eyes and an Opened Heart

 

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice here in these first moments of my morning, for Your sheep hear Your voice and follow You (John 10:27). ...

 

As I wait for Your leading, this older worship song is rising up in my heart:

 

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.

Open the eyes of my heart.

I want to see You. ...*

 

Yes, Lord. I want to see You. Your Word comes to mind, expressed through the prayer of the Apostle Paul for the opening of our eyes and our hearts to see You and know You and follow You in Ephesians chapter 1:

 

“For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His great might that He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things under His feet and gave Him as Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all” (Ephesians 1:15-23).

 

So remove every form of spiritual blindness from my eyes. Remove every form of spiritual hardness from my heart. Take away all confusion, deception, and doubt. Give me eyes to see and faith to believe “what are the riches of (Your) glorious inheritance in (me and every one of Your) saints.” Give me a heart to expect and to receive “the immeasurable greatness of (Your) power toward (me and every of us) who believe.”

 

That’s what comes when I have eyes to see You and faith to believe You -- the One who fills my eyes with Your Light and my heart with Your Truth, “who fills all in all.”

 

That’s what happens when Your “Spirit of Wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of (You)” comes to open the eyes of my heart so I can see You as You truly are:

 

High and lifted up!

Shining in the Light of Your Glory!

Pouring out Your Power and Love,

As we cry, “Holy! Holy! Holy!”

 

Yes, Lord. By the power of Your grace, Your mercy, and Your love, I begin my day with my eyes open to You, my heart open to You, my faith expectant toward You to come and shine through my life everywhere You send me in my world. Jesus, be high and lifted up in heart and every moment of my day, drawing people to You and the Light of Your Glory (John 12:32). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Morning by Morning, August 14 - Blessing the Work of Our Hands, Our Minds, Our Words, and Our Hearts   Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my days in the communion of prayer with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God -- I listen and wait for Your leading. ...   This Monday morning, much of the world will return to work from a weekend of worship and rest. Now redeemed from the curse when we are in Christ, the work of our hands is a blessing from God to bring provision and also fulfillment, a way of life and also daily opportunities to share both the Person and the character of the One who is the Way of Life with everyone we encounter throughout the labor of our days.   As we trust in You and allow You to be the Source of all we need, of all we desire, of all we are to follow in Your leading and in obedience to Your will, Your blessings will abound as a witness to the world around us:   “The Lord will bless you in all the work of your hand that you will do” (Deuteronomy 14:29).   So all that we do -- whatever job we have, whatever career we pursue, whatever calling we fulfill, all by the power of Your grace at work within us  -- is to honor You. As Your Word declares: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23). “There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This I have also seen is from the hand of God” (Ecclesiastes 2:24). In that way, our work “is the gift of God” and is also an expression of our lives given back to the God who “keeps (us) busy with the joy of (our) heart” (Ecclesiastes 5:19-20).   With our hearts in Christ and with Christ in our hearts, “we are God’s fellow workers” wherever we are (1 Corinthians 3:9). We are “ambassadors of Christ” whatever we do (2 Corinthians 5:20). And we are “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, (God’s) own special people” everywhere He has called us and positioned us for each season of our lives “that (we) may proclaim the praises of Him who called (us) out of darkness and into His marvelous light!” (1 Peter 2:9)   So I pray You would position me and every son and daughter of God in the places of work, the spheres of influence, and the opportunities of ministry that will bring fulfillment, provision, and joy to our hearts as we do all we do to honor You and witness to the goodness of God. In all our ways, in all we do, let us look to You, “acknowledge (You), “trust in (You),” to position us for Your purposes and plans, knowing “(You) shall direct (our) paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).   That’s when we can embrace the Promise of Your Word that “(You) will give (us) the desires of (our) heart” as we “delight in (You), as we trust in You, as we entrust our days and our work and all that we have and all that we are to You (Psalm 37:4). Then we will be fulfilled with “a future and a hope” that You have planned for every one of us (Jeremiah 29:11). Then we will be blessed in the work of our hands, our minds, our words, and our hearts -- in our coming and our going, in our rising and our resting, in the morning and evening with Your favor upon us and Your Spirit within us (Deuteronomy 28:6-16; Galatians 3:14).   The Truth is:   “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).   “(Our) God shall supply all (we) need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).   Not only just what we need, but Our God shall supply “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. The Power of a Smile - August 11, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, August 11 - The Power of a Smile   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I wait for the leading of Your Spirit -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...   “A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken” (Proverbs 15:13 NASB).   As phrased in The Message translation, “A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.”   The Truth is, “A merry heart does good, like medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).   So Lord, fill my heart with joy and make my spirit merry. Let it show on my face and shine through my eyes today.   There’s power in a smile -- not only to lift up my spirit, but to lift up the spirits of others. There’s an anointing of joy that comes from Your Spirit flowing through our spirits that breaks off sadness, that lifts up weariness, that releases the hope of a better perspective.   And it’s sealed in the heart of every child of God whose given their heart to You, because it’s part of the package of Divine Favor that comes with the Kingdom of God taking dominion in our lives: “For the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit!” (Romans 14:17). “The Kingdom of God is within (us)” (Luke 17:21).   So let Your Kingdom come in my heart today. Let Your Kingdom be expressed with joy today. Let Your Kingdom conquer sadness, break off weariness, and release hope through the joy in my spirit and the power of the smile on my face.   “The Lord bless (us) and keep (us); the Lord make His face shine on (us) and be gracious to (us); the Lord turn His face toward (us) and give (us) peace” (Numbers 6:24-26). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Prayer for Our Teachers - August 10, 2023

 

Morning by Morning, August 10 - Prayer for Our Teachers   Good morning, Lord Jesus. I open the door of my heart for You to come into every moment and encounter of my day (Revelation 3:20). ...   “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach” (Romans 12:6-7).   Thank you for our teachers -- teachers of our students, teachers of the Word, teachers of Your truth.   Let Your love fill their hearts and Your wisdom fill their minds. Give them the grace of patience and persistence, Godly counsel and heavenly compassion, to teach with authority and lead with integrity (Matthew 7:29). “A wise teacher makes learning a joy” (Proverbs 15:2 TLB).   Let the teaching of their words be grounded in the truth of Your Word and the moving of their hearts be a flowing of Your Spirit into the minds and hearts of every student. As You said of Your Teaching, “Let My teaching fall like rain and My words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants” (Deuteronomy 32:2).   Like tender plants, may the children of our communities be kept safe and secure, be taught in truth, that they may grow in grace and wisdom and stature, in favor with God and with man in the ways of their Teacher and Savior (Luke 2:52). May our teachers and leaders train them up in the way they should go, as they grow into maturity, which is to grow up in the character of Christ (Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 4:15). And great shall be the joy and reward of these teachers of Yours (Matthew 25:21). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
