Citizens of the Kingdom of God - November 8

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be the cornerstone of all You will build throughout the moments and choices and encounters of my day. ...

"So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In Him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God" (Ephesians 2:19-22).

Sometimes we can feel like strangers and aliens in this broken, fallen world. Sometimes it's easier to remember that this is not our home, we're just passing through. But we are here for a season, and we are here to make a difference. We're here for You to make us more like You, and we're here for You to express Your love and truth and light through us (Matthew 5:13-16).

So together with my fellow-citizens of the kingdom of God in every tribe and tongue of nation where You have called us and strategically positioned us fulfill our destiny in our generation, let our lives make a difference. Join us together and grow us into maturity to be the household of our God, the temple of Your Holy Spirit. Let our hearts be Your dwelling place and our hands be an extension the power of Your love and grace for this broken and fallen world through our lives, this day and every day, until You come again in final glory. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Tommy, may you be salt and light in your strategic position where the Lord has you placed today, with Jesus Christ himself as your cornerstone. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my freiend.

"Righteousness Exalts a Nation" - November 6

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Your name be exalted over my life, my nation, and my world today. ...

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34).

Today is election day in America. Lord, let Your Spirit of Righteousness be poured out upon our nation today to guide our hearts to choose what is right on every ballot across our land. Let us make the choices that most honor You. Let us choose the candidates who most honor You.

It's in our heart for Your righteousness alone - not our economy, our national defense, or even our high hopes for our future security and prosperity - that our nation will be exalted or not. So, Lord, give us a right heart to make right choices that honor You. Only Your hand can protect us and provide for us. Only Your Spirit can lead us and guide us to fulfill Your redemptive destiny for us as a people and a nation in these days and the days to come. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Tommy, I join with you in praying for Godly leaders to be elected to office at every level of government in our nation today. And may we be the Godly leaders and followers we are called to be every day, by the power of God's grace. God bless you, my freiend.

Morning by Morning, November 5 - The Better Part of the Better Place

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak Your name and seek Your nature, as I open my heart and lift my eyes to You in these first moments of my morning. ...

"But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to (Jesus) and asked, 'Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.' But the Lord answered her, 'Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her' " (Luke 10:40-42).

Martha had a personal relationship with You; and out of that relationship, she felt led to be very busy and always at work. When she pointed out her sister's failure to join with her in the work she was doing, she assumed she knew Your will and Your answer to her complaint, even before hearing Your response. She insisted of You, "Tell her then to help me."

But that's not what You did because that wasn't Your will. In fact, it was Martha, the one busy about the work of the kingdom or at least the "many tasks" she felt were the work of Your kingdom, who received Your correction. What she understood to be the pressure of Your will turned out to be a false pressure of worry, which became an idol and distraction, keeping her from the true intimacy of the personal relationship You both desired. Martha mistakenly thought she was in a better than her sister in Your eyes, but she had not chosen the better part at all.

Lord, I want to choose the better part. I want to be in the best place, the most intimate place, in my personal relationship with You. Forgive me for getting distracted and overcome with worry for the things I assume are Your will, without first drawing near to hear what really is. And forgive me for judging others of how they should be expressing their relationship with You, even as You free me from those same judgments of others as well. Lead us all to choose the better part, the better place - the place of intimacy in Your Presence where we can truly hear Your voice and obey Your will, so we can truly be about the work of Your kingdom in Your way and in Your time. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Morning by Morning, November 11 - Don't Look Back

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my eyes and call on Your name to begin my day in deliberate communion with Your Presence. ...

"Another said, 'I will follow You, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.' Jesus said to him, 'No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God' " (Luke 9:61-62).

Nothing in this world is to have priority over my relationship with You. And I can't afford to get stuck looking back to think about what might have been. I can never change the facts of my past, but You change the effect of my past, if I entrust myself to You and allow You to work all things together for good.

Help me seek first the kingdom of God and Your righteousness, not looking around and not looking back. Then You'll take care of everything else that matters to me - all in the timing and the way of the One who knows best and wants the best for me (Matthew 6:33). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

When Our World Withers and Fades - October 31

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Praise You, Heavenly Father. Welcome, Holy Spirit. Lord God Almighty, I worship You and honor You, as I begin my day with You. ...

"The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever. Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, 'Here is your God!' See the Lord comes with might, and His arm rules for Him; His reward is with Him and His recompense before Him will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs in His arms, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep" (Isaiah 40:8-11).

The famous boardwalk of Atlantic City is washed away. Wall Street is under water. Through floods and fires, winds and rain, it feels like the apocalypse for those who are suffering through such catastrophic destruction. But You are not distant from their distress or deaf to their cries. You are there in the midst of it all, bringing comfort to the broken and help to the hopeless.

All the things we know and expect to last forever could be washed away in a moment or burned up in an instant, but Your word will stand forever, Your Presence will never depart, Your love will never fail. You answer all who call and comfort those who mourn the loss of the passing treasures of this world. And You remind us all to keep holding fast to what will never wither and never fade.

Storms may come and the destruction is real, but You are our steadfast Rock that never waivers and never moves (Luke 6:48 ). Be with all who need to know Your security and embrace Your comfort in the midst of all the confusion and suffering they may endure. Thank You for every time You've always been there for me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

"Through the Waters" - October 30

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear Your voice and follow the leading of Your Holy Spirit in the embrace of my Father, as I begin my day in the communion of prayer. ...

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.... Do not fear, for I am with you..." (Isaiah 43:2-5).

Lord, I pray for those enduring this storm that's surged ashore and continues to churn across New Jersey, New York, and all that region of our nation. I pray for those who wake up this morning to the floods and fires, to the loss of power, and isolation from communication. Let them not fear, but turn to You in faith to believe You are with them and You will bring them through.

There is no devastation You cannot redeem, just as there are no circumstances You do not see. You're sending Your angels and sending Your people to be Your arms, Your hands, and Your feet. You hear the cry of the needy and reach out to those who call on Your name in their distress (Psalm 107:1-43). Your heart breaks with all who face the devastation and destruction that comes in like a flood, but You are there to bring them through in the power of Your love that casts out fear and points the way to restoration and hope. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

“You Rule the Raging Sea” - October 29

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I declare Your name over every area of my life and every encounter of my world today. May my choices reflect Your nature, my battles reflect Your victory, and my day reflect Your will.

“For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God feared in the council of the holy ones, great and awesome above all that are around Him? O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as You, O Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds You. You rule the raging sea, when its waves rise, You still them” (Psalm 89:6-9).

The seas of the Atlantic Ocean churn and rage at hurricane force off the coast of our nation. Amid rising waves and punishing winds, the storm intensifies by the hour. But as people prepare and some even flee, You are still the One who rules the raging sea and speaks to the gathering winds.

At the same time, there is a “ruler of the power of the air,” at work in our fallen creation, decaying and suffering under the sins of the generations of our fallen humanity (Ephesians 2:2). And that so-called “ruler of this world” is bent upon our destruction, with as much suffering and devastation as possible, to try to turn us away from You and one another to fend for ourselves in trembling and fear every chance he gets and every place where he can try to take advantage of our circumstances (John 14:30).

But in the end, You are still sovereign; You are still Lord; You are still in control. And You will cause even that to work together for good if we look to You and call on Your name (Romans 8:28). You are still the Ruler of All, who rules the raging sea, whether on our coast or in our hearts. So all the raging and even the destruction — while it breaks Your heart to see the suffering and consequences of our fallen world — only provide opportunities for us to reach out to help each other in love and stand firm with You in faith through every storm that comes. By the grace of God, we may not always avoid the suffering of this broken, fallen world, but we will always overcome when we cry out to You and call on Your name (Psalm 107:23-32). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

"Servants of God" - October 26

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I worship You -Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - in spirit and truth, with all that I am, yielded to You, as best as I can and all by Your grace. ...

"We put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in affliction, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labor, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as imposters and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything" (2 Corinthians 6:3-10).

Lord, I fall short of Your glory every day. And as much as I want to honor You with all my life as a faithful servant and honoring son of the Most High God, I often fall short of the mark. So all I know to do, and in the end, all I really can do, is lift up my eyes, open up my heart, and keep entrusting myself to You. Only You can truly change me. And it's only You that I need to seek to please - not seeking to live up to anyone else's expectations or do their will, but "doing the will of God from the heart" (Ephesians 6:6).

So will I daily throw myself upon the mercy of God and live my life, moment by moment, desperately depending upon the grace of God? Yes, I will. Apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). But Your grace is sufficient for me (2 Corinthians 12:9). That's not my prideful presumption upon Your grace; that's my humble acknowledgment of my desperate dependence upon Your power for every good and pleasing moment of my life. This is the kind of servant and disciple I want to be, because this the kind of servant and disciple I believe You desire. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Overcome and Endure in the Strength of God - October 25

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are my Rock and my Refuge, my Strength and Strong Tower. I look to You, as You steady my spirit in the peace and confidence of Your ever-abiding Presence. ...

"May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from His glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:11-14).

Your strength empowers me to overcome and Your strength prepares me to endure. Your strength is made manifest in my life, throughout the moments of my day, as I joyfully give thanks to the Lord my God in every circumstance and through every challenge. No matter what, I can be joyful that You are with me; and I can be thankful that You will redeem it all to work together for my good and use it all to make me more like You. This is my inheritance as one of Your saints, living in the light of the kingdom of God. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

"Rend Your Hearts" - October 24

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Draw me in to the deep place of trust and surrender in the confident security of Your unfailing love. ...

"Yet even now, says the Lord, return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing" (Joel 2:12-13).

Above all, You desire our hearts - not our religious rituals, not our righteous deeds, not our outward displays that only serve to mask what's really going on inside. At the deepest level, it seems You simply want us to love You, love one another, and love ourselves, while fully embracing the gift and grace of Your great love for us. As You said long ago: " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets' " (Matthew 22:37-40).

When we get our hearts right, everything else begins to fall into place and come into alignment (Matthew 6:33). Lord, help me turn to You with all my heart. And whenever my heart begins to turn away or turn inside because of the heartaches or failed hopes or false promises of this broken, fallen world, help me return to You with all my heart. Help me trust You and obey You because I love You from the inside out. Then let my words and actions, my decisions and direction flow out of what You're doing in my heart (Matthew 12:33-37). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

"Abound in Hope" - October 23

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are One with the Father, One with the Holy Spirit; be One within me now in the communion of prayer and throughout the moments of my day. ...

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).

In Your hope there is joy; in Your hope there is peace, when we are believing that You are with us and You are for us. You are a good God, who loves to give good gifts to Your children. And one of Your greatest gifts is hope-hope that there is no valley You will not bring us through, that there is no challenge Your grace won't be sufficient to meet, and that there is no place we could ever go, whether in this world or in our hearts, that You don't go with us.

Holy Spirit, come empower me to believe, empower me to hope. Fill me with Your joy and peace today. No matter what valleys we'll go through, what challenges we'll face, what places we go, You be with me. And in the power of Your grace, I will abound in hope. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Best Friends with God - October 22

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You're my Lord and Savior, my Master and King, and my Best Friend. I watch and wait for the leading of Your Holy Spirit, into the deep embrace of my Heavenly Father, here at the beginning of my day. ...
"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father" (John 15:12-15).
By Your Word, according to Your heart and Your will for me, I am a friend of God. And I have no friend like You. You laid down Your life for me. Then You invited me to lay down my life for You - to entrust my will to Your will, to seek Your ways as my ways, to desire Your plan as Your best for my life. And Your ways and Your plan are grounded in Your commandment to "love one another" as I learn to fully embrace Your love for me.
Help me keep accepting Your invitation and keep living out this relationship of friendship with You throughout the moments of my day. By the power of Your grace, help me embrace that this is Your heart and Your will for my life today and every day. Every day will look different, just like every relationship You've strategically positioned or sovereignly allowed in my life to teach me to love You, love them, and learn to love myself. But I'll never have to figure it out on my own, because I'll always have my Best Friend near at my side and here in my heart. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Extraordinary Power through Jars of Clay - October 19

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, I welcome You into my spirit, soul, and body. Bring my heart into alignment with Your heart, as I begin my day consciously and deliberately looking to You and seeking Your will. ...
"But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our bodies" (2 Corinthians 4:7-10).
Lord, let Your life be made visible in my body today. Let Your extraordinary power of Your unfailing love pour out of my jar of clay today. Apart from You, I can do nothing; but abiding in You, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. When I am weary, You are my strength. When I am discouraged, You are my hope. When I am wavering, You are my rock.
In the extraordinary power of Your grace, let me bless those who curse me, pray for those who persecute me, forgive those who judge me, and love those who hate me. Show me where to draw the boundaries in every relationship, and teach me to learn through every struggle. In this way, Your power is made perfect in my weakness, because Your grace is always sufficient for me (v. 12:9). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I entrust my mind to Your thoughts, my heart to Your desires, and my feet to Your path. ...
"So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen, for what can be seen in temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:16-18).
Every affliction can prepare us. Every struggle can strengthen us. Every failure can humble us. And every blessing can encourage us. If we'll entrust all things to You, You'll use all things to work together for Your great purpose of making us more like You (Romans 8:28-29).
Though they hardly ever seem like it at the time, the afflictions of this world - whether self-inflicted or inflicted by others - are only "slight" and only "momentary" in the bigger picture of Your greater purposes. Lord, help me see them that way, seeing them from the inside out and from the future glory back to the present afflictions. Give me Your perspective. Help me never lose heart, but keep entrusting my heart to You. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Time to Wake from Our Sleep - October 16

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings, Lord of lords, Your name is above every name. And I speak out Your name as the first word of my day. ...
"Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; the night is far gone; the day is near" (Romans 13:11-12).
Awaken my spirit. Arise within me. We long for the day of Your return, the day of the fullness of our salvation. One day You'll return in the clouds in glory, but every day between this day that one, You want to arise in glory within us. Your Word declares this great mystery, "Christ in (us), the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).
Be glorified through my life today. Forgive me of my sins, heal me of my hurts, free me from my chains. Make me more like You today. For as we behold You in the praise of worship and the intimacy of prayer, You are changing us into Your image, from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). This is what time it is - time to arise and shine for our light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon us (Isaiah 60:1). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

"Near to the Brokenhearted" - October 15

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I lift up my eyes, open up my heart, and call out Your name. The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come." And I say, "Come." Come into my heart, into my thoughts, into every moment of my day. You are welcome here; You are welcome now. ...
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.... The Lord redeems the life of His servants; none of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned" (Psalm 34:18-32).
Like the father who ran to embrace the return of his prodigal son, like Your example of mercy and love when You reached out with compassion to the thief who turned his heart to You as he hung on his cross of shame, You are a God who never stops loving and never stops longing to embrace Your hurting children. You always draw "near to the brokenhearted," and then You "heal the brokenhearted"- if we'll just turn to You and let You come close (Isaiah 61:1, fulfilled in Christ, Luke 4:18).
No matter how far away we've run, how deep a pit we've dug, or how much pain we've endured, You come after us; You reach out to us; You embrace us and hold us tight, like You'll never let us go. Because You never will.
Then in the mercy and power of Your grace, You even redeem it and somehow even cause good to come out of it. You never waste a moment of our sufferings or miss an opportunity to use our challenges, in Your undying passion to make us more like You (Romans 8:17). What an amazing God You are. You are worthy to be praised and worthy to be trusted with all that I am and all that I have. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Passionate and Impulsive - October 12

Good morning, Lord Jesus. We've been together on this journey of prayer every morning for a long time now. I thank You that You are always here when I settle in for a little time with You in these first moments of my morning, to start my day embraced by the Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. Your Presence is worth more to me than all the treasures of all the kingdoms of this world. ...
"Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it, struck the high priest's slave, and cut off his right ear. The slave's name was Malchus. Jesus said to Peter, 'Put your sword back into its sheath. Am I not to drink the cup that the Father has given Me?' " (John 18:10-11)
Peter was passionate and impulsive. He loved You with all his heart. But he also, too often, was too quick to assume he knew Your heart and understood Your will. He often acted passionately and impulsively in his flesh, instead of taking the time to follow Your Spirit. Sometimes the very gifts of God that made him uniquely who he was were the very things that got him into trouble, causing harm to himself and to others.
But Peter never caused any harm You couldn't heal (Luke 22:51). And the power of Your blood can redeem and overcome every sin and failure we will humbly entrust to You through confession and repentance. You'll even use those, like everything else, to cause all things to work together for our good when we love You with all our heart (Romans 8:28).
Thank You for Your tender mercies and steadfast love, despite all my passions and impulsiveness. Thank You for Your forgiveness and redemption to clean up my messes and heal my damages. Thank You for never giving up on me, never turning away from me, never abandoning me. No, You never let go. "No, in all these things ... (nothing) will be able to separate (me) from the love of God in Christ Jesus (my) Lord" (Romans 8:37-39). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Friends, I pray the Lord will heal your hurts and any hurts you've caused, trying to move in your gifts and the unique identity the Lord has given you. May He turn it all around and use it for your good and His glory, as you entrust it all to Him. Please pray the same for me, my friend. God bless you!
I will be sending out a note to my friends and ministry relationships with a significant update in my personal life, so I would especially appreciate your prayers of God's grace for my family and this ministry today and through this coming season.

Boldness, Intimacy, and Peace in Prayer - October 11

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I am Yours and You are mine. As best as I can and all by Your grace, I surrender all to You and You are Lord of all of me. ...
"Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; and we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we obey His commandments and do what pleases Him. And this is His commandment, that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as He has commanded us. All who obey His commandments abide in Him and He abides in them. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit that He has given us" (1 John 3:21-24).
When we believe and when we love, we please You. It's not by our power, nor by our might, but by Your Spirit that we can desire this or do this. "For it is God who is at work in (us), enabling (us) both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13). As we abide in You and You abide in us, Your Spirit changes our hearts and what we desire, just as Your Spirit changes our minds and how we think.
In that deep place of communion between Your Holy Spirit and our human spirit, where Deep calls to deep, we have peace and intimacy with You. That's the place where "there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus;" and that's the place where "the law of the Spirit of the life of Christ has set (us) free" (Romans 8:1-2). In that place of completely surrendered, un-condemning, intimate prayer, "we have boldness before God, and we receive from Him whatever we ask." There's where I belong, and that's where I want to be. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Tommy, may the Holy Spirit of the Living God draw you deeply into the place of boldness, intimacy, and peace in prayer through communion with Him. May your heart know no condemnation as you abide in Christ and Christ abides in you, embraced by your Father in Heaven who loves you more than you can know. Please pray the same for me, my friend. God bless you!
I'm excited to be partnering in ministry this week in San Antonio, Texas with Rapha God Ministries, training and equipping for inner healing prayer ministry (www.RaphaGodMinistries.com). Please keep us in your prayers to see breakthroughs and transformation in spirit, soul, and body.
