Child of God through Christ 9-28-06

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Father, I welcome the Holy Spirit of Your Son in my heart this day. … "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!' So you are no longer a slave, but a child, and if a child, then also an heir of God through Christ" (Galatians 4:4-7). My little boy Josiah woke us up early this morning. He's almost six months old and not yet sleeping through the night. I don't think he was crying out 'Abba!' in Aramaic, but it got his father's attention. It seems You have created us to long to be comforted and to cry out for the presence and the touch of those who love us and have been entrusted with our care. Our need and desire for our earthly parents in the physical realm is a picture our need and desire for our heavenly Parent in the spiritual realm. Sometimes we need to get out a good cry. And sometimes You come in to touch us and comfort us, but not always lift us up out of our circumstances. Those are times when You are teaching us that You never leave us nor forsake us, even when we don't always get what we want or think we need (Hebrews 13:5). We are still Your children, with the Spirit of Your Son in our hearts and all the inheritance of the kingdom of God in our hands, but You help us grow up into maturity in the fullness of Your timing and Your way. You are a wise Father, who loves Your children enough to help us grow into the maturity of our calling and destiny, even if we don't always understand why you let us cry and don't always give us what we want. And in the security of Your presence and the power of Your touch, You continue to promise us, "As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you" (Isaiah 66:13). In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
