Morning by Morning, March 28, 2022 - “Never More, Forever More”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. I’m listening for Your leading, as I seek to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...
Right now, I’m hearing in my heart:
“Never more, forever more.” ...
“Never more, will I remember your sins. Forever more, they are cast away from you, as far as the east is from the west. It’s not that I literally forget them, for all things and all time is forever present before Me. But that I mercifully no longer hold them against you. You are forgiven and free by My mercy and love, forever cleansed by the blood of My Son.”
Yes, Lord. Your Word comes to mind from Isaiah:
“I, I am He
who blots out your transgressions for My own sake,
and I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25).
And Your Word from Jeremiah:
“No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:34).
And of course, Your famous Word of forgiveness and freedom, mercy and love from Psalm 103:
“The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will He keep His anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far He removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear Him.
For He knows how we were made;
He remembers that we are dust” (Psalm 103:8-14).
In Your mercy and love, You don’t “forget” our sins as if you get some kind of spiritual amnesia about every sinful moment of our lives. In fact, the forgiveness of our sins is one of the most powerful points of our testimony. And the freedom from the guilt and shame and regret of our past failures, now replaced with the peace and joy that only the forgiveness of God can truly provide, is one of the most practical, personal evidences of the victory of the cross and the power of the resurrection.
You “forget” our sins and “no longer remember” our sins in the sense that You choose to no longer hold them against us, and that You choose to keep no record of our wrongs between us.
“Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity
and passing over the transgression
of the remnant of Your possession?
He does not retain His anger forever,
because He delights in showing clemency.
He will again have compassion upon us;
He will tread our iniquities under foot.
You will cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.
You will show faithfulness to Jacob
and unswerving loyalty to Abraham,
as You have sworn to our ancestors
from the days of old” (Micah 7:18-20).
As someone has said, “You cast our sins into the depths of the sea and then put up a sign that says, ‘No Fishing!’”
Yes, Lord. That’s what You’ve done for us!
By Your mercy and grace, through the sacrifice of Your love, all who receive the forgiveness of our sins through the blood Jesus are forever more “giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled (us) to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins.... For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him God was pleased to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:11-20).
This is the “never more” that I celebrate today and “forever more” in You! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
