Morning by Morning, March 8 - Not Afraid for We are Not Alone
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Live in me; live through me--this day and every day (Colossians 1:27). ...
“‘I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. In a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. They who have My commandments and keep them are those who love Me; and those who love Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love them and reveal Myself to them.’ Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him,
‘Lord, how is it that You will reveal Yourself to us, and not to the world?’ Jesus answered him, ‘Those who love Me will keep My word, and My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make Our home with them’” (John 14:18-23).
We’re not left “orphaned” or alone. Because You live, we also live. You live in us by Your Spirit within us--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. When we are in Christ and Christ is in us, our heart is Your “home.”
This is not a gift “the world” has received. This is a gift of God only we receive, when we receive Your Holy Spirit in our human spirit, when we entrust our lives to You to come live Your life through us. As You said of the Promise of Your Presence through the Presence of Your Spirit:
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him, because He abides with you, and He will be in you” (John 14:15-17).
You are in us; and we are in You. That’s what gives us our peace no matter what’s going on in our world. Just as You spoke these words of hope and help, of encouragement and empowerment to Your first disciples before You returned to heaven, so You speak to us today as Your disciples today, as You return from heaven and into our hearts, as we give our hearts to You:
“I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid” (John 14:25-27).
We’re not afraid because we’re not alone. You are with us; You are within us--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You’ll never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). As Your Word assures us from long ago and forevermore, we can “be strong and bold; (having) no fear or dread ... because it is the Lord (our) God who goes with (us); He will not fail (us) or forsake (us)” (Deuteronomy 31:6). Just as You promised, as You ascended and returned to heaven, before sending Your Spirit into our hearts, “Remember, I AM with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
