Morning by Morning, March 8 - God Reverses the Curses
Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You, as my ears listen for Your leading (John 10:3). ...
Last night ended the celebration of the day of Purim, remembering the events of the story of Esther and Mordecai, when the wicked Haman sought to destroy the Jewish people. Mordecai and all Israel prayed, while Esther took action, that the plans of the enemy of the people of God would be overturned and even reversed (Esther 4:13-17).
When Haman’s plan was exposed through the courage and faith of Mordecai and Esther, through the prayers of the people of God, the very judgment Haman planned for Mordecai came back on him: “So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai” (Esther 7:10).
And at the same time, the very plan to plunder and destroy the Jewish people throughout the kingdom was reversed, so that the allies of Haman were destroyed and people of Israel prevailed (Esther 9:1-16). Their fears were turned to faith and their tears were turned to joy. When the curse was reversed and all was made right on their behalf throughout the kingdom, “They rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness” (Esther 9:17).
This became a yearly celebration (Esther 9:21), which continues to this day. We remember these days, recorded in the Word of God, “as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor” (Esther 9:22). “So they called these days Purim ... that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city, that these days of Purim should not fail to be observed, among the Jews, and that the memory of them should not perish among their descendants” (Esther 9:28).
You’re the God who reverses the curses and bestows Your blessings upon Your people. And as we remember what You did for Your people in the days of Esther, let it give us courage of conviction to pray and to act against whatever would seek to destroy any of us as the people of God in our day. By the power of Your name and the moving of Your Spirit, reverse every curse against Your people and make things right in our hearts and in our land in the power of Your love for us:
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).
“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8:37-39) In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
