Morning by Morning, December 4, 2024 - “Live in the Spirit” and “Walk in the Spirit”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Looking to You, listening for the leading of Your Spirit, I begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ...   “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).   Lord, give me the power of Your grace to “live in the Spirit” and “walk in the Spirit” today.   How do I do that? ...   What comes to my heart is this: “My son, let My Spirit fill your mind with My thoughts and your heart with My desires. In the attitude of your heart, embrace My Presence with you always throughout the moments of your day, being sensitive to My direction and correction, being obedient to my leading as best as you can and all by My grace.” ...   Yes, Lord. A Scripture immediately comes to mind from Your Written Word in confirmation of what I sense is Your spoken word into my spirit and rising up to my mind:   “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).   And this Psalm of David:   “Give ear to my words, O Lord, Consider my meditation. Give heed to the voice of my cry, My King and my God, For to You I will pray. My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up” (Psalm 5:1-3).   I do “look up” to You. I do listen up for You and seeking the leading of Your Spirit. I do embrace the grace of God to “live in the Spirit” and “walk in the Spirit” today -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, December 3, 2024 - Turning from Thanksgiving to Christmas   Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart, my thoughts, and my day (1 Peter 3:15). ...   “To You I lift up my eyes, O You who are enthroned in the heavens!” (Psalm 123:1)   In the days of transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas, we don’t stop thanking You but now emphasize awaiting You. In the hearts of Christians throughout the earth, there will be an awakening anticipation for the celebration of the birth of Christ. And many who do not yet know You will become much more open to coming to know You as they consider the meaning of “Christ” in “Christmas.”   So I turn my eyes and my heart to You in great anticipation and expectation. Even as I’m aware of all the discussions about whether this is the actual, historical date of Your birth and the origins of this celebration on the world’s calendar. But You are the God who redeems all things and causes all things to work together for good (Romans 8:28). “Christmas” is one of those things.   There’s no doubt that around the world, the attention of the world is drawn to You, the questions of the world are drawn to You, the wonder of the world is drawn to You. And the “magic of Christmas” will become for many the “mystery of faith” through a deep moving of Your Holy Spirit, with many opening their hearts to You for the salvation of their souls and the experience of the love of God through Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 3:9).   Come, Holy Spirit. Come move in the hearts of seekers throughout the earth during this season of anticipation. The world is hungry for more, hungry for truth, hungry for love, hungry for peace. Come lead these hungry hearts to the One who is all of that (John 14:6; 1 John 4:16). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today. Morning by Morning, December 2, 2024 - “Be Brave, Be Strong”   Good morning, Lord Jesus. My eyes are on You to seek You and follow You now and throughout the moments of my day. ...   “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13).   We went to the movie on the life of Diedrich Bonhoeffer last night. Powerful and inspiring. Also humbling and convicting. Bonhoeffer was a living example of courage in the face of fear, perseverance in the face of persecution, light in the midst of darkness that refused to diminish or shrink back from speaking the truth and confronting the evil of his day when few others would.   In the days when few would stand against the evils of Hitler’s Nazi Germany, Pastor Bonhoeffer fearlessly proclaimed from the pulpit, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”   Lord, make me more brave, more strong and steadfast in my faith. Give me courage in my convictions with no compromise. Let there be no surrender, no retreat in my life before the enemies of the cross of Jesus Christ.   “We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) -- and the life of Diedrich Bonhoeffer is truly a witness to You and the courage of conviction You grant by Your Spirit to those who will keep the faith, who will “contend earnestly for the faith” with eyes fixed on You (Jude 1:3). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today.
