Alive in Christ with Victory over Death! - April 7, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 7 - Alive in Christ with Victory over Death!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Resurrected and Risen Lord, arise in me to go out into my world in Your Resurrection Power today. ...

“Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through Him among you, as you yourselves know -- this Man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. But God raised Him up, having freed Him from death, because it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.... This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this that you both see and hear.... Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made Him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified” (Acts 2:22-36).

Death couldn’t hold You. The grave couldn’t silence You. Hell couldn’t rule over You. You were crucified, dead, and buried, but raised from the dead by the Spirit of God that filled Your lungs and broke open Your tomb and destroyed the power of death. Amen! Hallelujah!

Then You, in perfect union with our Father, poured out upon us, upon all who believe You and trust You with our lives, that same Holy Spirit that raised You from the dead. “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).

You defeated death and the one who seeks only to steal and kill and destroy, so that just as it had no power over You, death and the fear of death no longer have any power over us. “Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death” (Hebrews 2:14-15).

Thank You that the Power of Your Resurrection is the same Power of the Holy Spirit releasing Your victory over death and Your Resurrection Power in us every day:

“When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled:
‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’
‘Where, O death, is your victory?
    Where, O death, is your sting?’
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).

Because You live, I can arise and live, in newness of life, in victory over death and victory over the fear of death today. Even when it comes my day to die a physical death on this earth -- if I’m not one of those to see You come again in Your glory from Heaven, which I pray to be -- my spirit will never die and never taste of death. Just as You promised:

“Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you” (John 14:19-20).

“I AM the Resurrection and the Life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

Yes, Lord, I do! And by the power of Your grace, Your Resurrection Power in me, I am alive and joyfully choose to live for You because You now live in me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

He Turns Weeping to Joy! - April 6, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 6 - He Turns Weeping to Joy!

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be at the center of my heart and with me on every step of my day. ...

“But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.’ When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?’ Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, ‘Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take him away.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, ‘Do not hold on to Me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’ Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord’; and she told them that He had said these things to her” (John 20:11-18).

In reading through these familiar passages of the Resurrection again, Your Holy Spirit is revealing different things to me. They’re familiar words but timeless truths. And there’s always more depth to explore, more truth to glean, more life to embrace.

What strikes me this morning is that both You and Your angels ask Mary the same question, “Woman, why are you weeping?” ...

You weren’t asking the question because You didn’t know the answer. You knew. The angels. All of heaven and that part of the earth knew. Jesus of Nazareth had been crucified, dead, and buried. And she was weeping. She was grieving. Her heart was breaking and her mind was spinning in what must have been the most devastating time of disappointment and discouragement, of hopeless despair she had ever endured. She knew about the Cross and the Empty Tomb. But she had not yet experienced the Power of the Resurrection.

How many today are just the same? They know about the Cross and the Empty Tomb. They’ve heard all the “Easter” stories. But down in their hearts they’re still weeping, still grieving, still stuck in their sorrows and all the struggles they’re enduring in a world or through a time that seems so hopeless, so discouraging, so disappointing.

Like Mary, how we need to hear You speak our name! How we need a personal encounter with the Risen Lord! How need an experience of Your Resurrection Power!

You’re the God who turns weeping to dancing, who turns sorrow to singing. You’re the God who takes our sorrows and sadness, our hopelessness and despair, to speak New Life into our spirits!

Just like You rolled back the stone and emptied the tomb in the Glory of Your Resurrection, You can roll back our doubts and empty our sorrows and fill us afresh with Faith and Trust in Your Resurrection Power!

You’re the Fulfillment of every Promise of Your Word, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy come in the morning!” (Psalm 30:5) “In Your Presence there is fullness of joy!” (Psalm 16:11) “The ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away!” (Isaiah 35:10)

Lord Jesus, I thank You for the freedom to grieve in sorrow, to ask questions in doubt, to be honest with my pain and every struggle I’m ever going through, no matter how discouraging, disappointing, or hopeless it may seem. But I also thank You for Power of Your Resurrection! For the New Life You speak into my spirit! For the invitation I have every day to listen for Your Voice, to hear You speak my name, and turn my weeping to joy as I encounter Your Presence! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may your weeping be turned to joy as you encounter the Presence of the Rise Lord and His Resurrection Power, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

“Hearts Burning Within Us” in the Resurrected Presence of Jesus Christ - April 5, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 5 - “Hearts Burning Within Us” in the Resurrected Presence of Jesus Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Arise and live in Your resurrection power in my heart and life today. ...

"Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus.... While they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself came near and went with them.... Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them the things about Himself in all the Scriptures.... They said to each other, 'Were not our hearts burning within us while He was talking to us on the road, while He was opening the Scriptures to us?'" (Luke 24:13-32)

Come near and come alongside me today, Lord Jesus. Open up the Word of God to me. Show me Your love, Your power, and Your Presence in all Your Scriptures. For “all the Scriptures” ultimately reveal You to us (Luke 24:27). In You, “the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen (Your) glory, the glory of a Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

Let my heart burn within me with the eternal Flame of Your Holy Spirit, as You walk with me and talk with me, revealing to me Your Word and filling me with Your Spirit. You're my Lord and Savior, my Father and Friend. You’re my Resurrected King. You're my Constant Companion. You’re my “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Open the eyes of my heart to see You as You truly are (Luke 24:13). Empower me by Your Spirit to go share the Good News of Your resurrection power everywhere You send me so that other hearts may be opened to also see You as You truly are. And keep fanning into flame the burning desire of my heart to keep growing in the intimacy, maturity, and power of Your ever-abiding Presence, now forever with me every hour, every moment, all by Your grace (Matthew 28:20). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

"He is not Here, for He is Risen!" - April 4, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 4 - "He is not Here, for He is Risen!"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I wake up this morning of the Resurrection Sunday of Holy Week, during these days of the remembrance and celebration of Passover, to come close to You with excitement and expectancy to hear what You'll say and see what You'll do -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.

"Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said! Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that His is risen from the dead! ..." (Matthew 28:1-7)

God's not dead. He is alive!

Death and the devil didn't win. Hell couldn't hold You down. The grave couldn't keep You hidden away. The stone couldn't seal You up. You overcame it all in the victory of the cross and the power of the resurrection!

And because You overcame, we can overcome. Because You had victory, we can have victory. Because hope and faith won the day by the power of God in You, hope and faith by the same power of God in us will win the day for us!

"If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit who dwells in you" (Romans 8:11).

Father, You sent Your Spirit to raise Jesus from the dead. And You send that same Spirit in that same power to raise us from the dead -- to give is the victory of life over death, of hope over despair, of faith over fear. By the power of Your grace at work in us, at work in our world, hope and faith will win the day! You are our Hope. You are our Faith. You are our Answer and only Hope for all we face, as we put all our faith in You alone.

For death is swallowed up in victory! ... Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Corinthians 15:54)

We're not overcomers unless we've overcome something. We don't have a testimony unless we've been tested. We can't be more than conquerors unless we've had something to conquer. And the empty tomb is the eternal witness of the power of God to empower us to overcome whatever we're going through in our world today and in our world to come!

"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His love" (Romans 5:3-5).

Let the same Power that raised Jesus from the dead stir up the hearts of God's people around the world to release Your power of hope and faith to overcome as never before! Let everything we're going through develop endurance and character and hope in us that can't be held down or sealed off or shut up. Let Your resurrection life and power arise in us to shine in our world as we remember and celebrate what You have done!

Around the world, as we remember the victory of the cross and the empty tomb, let us receive and embrace Your promise and power of faith and hope:  "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit!" (Romans 15:13) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be filled afresh with hope and faith in the One who overcome the grave and the devil so that we can overcome all that we face in the resurrection power of the risen Christ, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Remember the Sacrifice of the Cross - April 2, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 2 - Remember the Sacrifice of the Cross

Good morning, Lord Jesus. On this day we remember the cross, I remember You and Your sacrifice of love for me.  ...

“And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), they offered (Jesus) wine to drink, mixed with gall; but when He tasted it, He would not drink it. And when they had crucified Him, they divided His clothes among themselves by casting lots; then they sat down there and kept watch over Him. Over His head they put the charge against Him, which read, ‘This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.’

Then two bandits were crucified with Him, one on His right and one on His left. Those who passed by derided Him, shaking their heads and saying, ‘You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.’ In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him, saying, He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in Him. He trusts in God; let God deliver Him now, if He wants to; for He said, ‘I am God’s Son.’ The bandits who were crucified with Him also taunted Him in the same way.

From noon on, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And about three o’clock Jesus cried with a loud voice, ‘Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’ When some of the bystanders heard it, they said, ‘This man is calling for Elijah.’ At once one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, ‘Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him.’ Then Jesus cried again with a loud voice and breathed His last.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. After His resurrection they came out of the tombs and entered the holy city and appeared to many. Now when the centurion and those with Him, who were keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were terrified and said, ‘Truly this Man was the Son of God!’” (Matthew 27:33-54)

Yes, this Man was the Son of God. This Man was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). This Man was the Messiah of Israel and Savior of all, the Suffering Servant who led a sinless life and willing laid it down that we could be forgiven and free by the sacrifice of His love through the power of His blood in fulfillment of the prophetic promise of the Word of God in Isaiah 53:

He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:3-6).

Lord Jesus, as “the iniquity of us all” was laid upon You, as You bore “the chastisement for our peace” and all “our griefs” and “sorrows” and “transgressions” and “iniquities,” the Father turned His face away. And in prophetic fulfillment of Psalm 22, You cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? (Psalm 22:1).

In that moment when all our sin separated You from our God, You were forsaken for a moment that we would never be forsaken forever. You paid the price for our sins in the way we never could.

Truly we have no idea of the suffering You endured in Your spirit as You endured the cross and descended to hell in separation from the Father on our behalf (1 Peter 3:18-22). So before we hurry on in celebration of the joy of Your resurrection, may we take time to remember the sacrifice of the cross, with hearts of eternal gratitude all You’ve done for us.

Lord Jesus, thank You for the cross. Thank You for the debt You paid and the gift You gave that can never be repaid, but only accepted and embraced through Your love and grace for every one of us. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Coker's Announcement: The Lord invites all who are burdened to come to Him. We will begin with a time in worship, declare of Jesus as our Savior & Healer, hear a message of hope, continue into a time of corporate prayer, and then if you would like individual prayer you can join the prayer ministers in the room on the 25th, or online in a smaller Zoom Room on the 26th, for individual prayer. The service will be co-led by Rev Adam Knight and Rev Tommy Hays (author, and founder of Messiah Ministries). Worship will be provided by Randall Kitchen. The service will be offered in person the first night, and on Zoom the second. Both services will be similar- so you can join in the one you are most comfortable in (or both if you would like). Wrestling in Prayer, But Faithful in Obedience - April 1, 2021

Morning by Morning, April 1 - Wrestling in Prayer, But Faithful in Obedience

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Wonderful, merciful Savior, let Your blood cleanse my sins and Your love fill my heart, as I begin my day thankful to You and all You’ve done for me. ...

“He came out and went, as was His custom, to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples followed Him. When He reached the place, He said to them, ‘Pray that you may not come into the time of trial.’ Then He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed, ‘Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet, not My will but Yours be done.’ Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and gave Him strength. In His anguish He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground. When He got up from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping because of grief, and He said to them, ‘Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not come into the time of trial’” (Luke 22:39-46).

On this Thursday before the Friday of the cross, as we journey with You in remembrance of the events of that holy week when You were crucified, dead, and buried, yet raised from the dead in the glory of Your resurrection, I’m remembering Your wrestling in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. You had shared Your last supper, what we now call The Lord’s Supper, with Your disciples; and now You were wrestling in prayer, in what we might call The Lord’s Surrender, with Your Father.

As courageous and as committed as You were to fulfill all You came to do on this earth on our behalf, You still asked our Father if He was “willing” to “remove this cup” from You. You had spoken of this “cup” and what it meant with Your disciples as You shared the Passover Meal with them that same night, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the New Covenant in My blood” (Luke 22:20). It would be Your blood poured out from Your cross that would forever seal the New Covenant for those first disciples and for every disciple to follow You in the generations to come.

But Your wrestling in prayer led to Your surrendering in trusting faith and faithful obedience to the perfect will of our Father and the only way of our salvation through Your sacrifice of selfless love. “Not My will but Yours be done” was Your prayer of surrender and our way of salvation. In many ways, the victory of the cross at Calvary was only possible because of Your decision of surrender in the prayer of Gethsemane. You humbled Yourself before our Father and “became obedient to the point of death -- even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8).

When You returned from Your prayer to find Your disciples sleeping and commanded them, “Get up and pray” so that they would “not come into the time of trial,” You had just passed Your trial through prayer. Their trial would be to be to stand by You in trusting faith and faithful obedience, as You had warned (Luke 22:28). But unlike You, they would not pass their trial, as they scattered and fled, instead of standing firm in the faith in You no matter the cost (Matthew 26:56).

Lord Jesus, just as an angel of the Lord came to strengthen You in Your time of trial, send the Spirit of the Lord to strengthen us in our times of trial. Give us courage and commitment to fulfill all You’ve created us to be called us to do as Your ambassadors of Christ in the body of Christ in our generation. Even when we wrestle with the cost of our faithfulness, give us Your grace of offer our lives as a living sacrifice to You, just as You offered Your life for us (Romans 12:1).

Father, awaken us from our sleep. Revive us by Your Spirit. That we might “not come into the time of trial” and fail to stand firm in our faith when our time of trial comes, no matter the cost. “Not (our) will but Yours be done.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, may you be awakened, revived, and strengthened in the Spirit to stand firm in your faith for Jesus no matter the cost whenever your time of trial may come, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you!
