Morning by Morning, April 18 - Attitude of Gratitude: “Thanks Be to God, Who Gives (Me) the Victory through (My) Lord Jesus Christ!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of Kings and Lord of Lords, come rule and reign in my heart and life today. ... “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:57-58). Some days, in some battles, in some of the daily challenges of doing life in the midst of a broken, fallen world, full broken, fallen people, while fighting the good fight of the faith against the broken, fallen spiritual forces of darkness seeking to kill, steal, and destroy, I don’t always feel victorious. I don’t always feel like I’m winning or succeeding or overcoming or even making a difference--whether in my life or let alone in anybody else’s life. “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!” You’ve won the victory already through the blood of Your cross, through the sacrifice of Your love, through all You’ve done for me that I could never do for myself. And You invite me to embrace Your victory. Your part is done and finished. My part is to say, “Yes, Lord. I believe it. Yes, Lord. I receive it. Yes, Lord. I thank You for it. Thanks be to God, who gives me the victory through my Lord Jesus Christ.” Just like my salvation, “If (I) confess with (my) mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in (my) heart that God has raised Him from the dead, (I) will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Just like I’m saved from the curse of sin and death, saved from an eternity of hell, so I’m also saved from the hell of a defeated spirit, a doubting faith, a struggling heart. By the power of Your grace always at work in my life, I speak out Your truth with my words because I choose to believe Your truth in my heart. I choose the attitude of gratitude: “Thanks be to God, who gives (me) the victory through (my) Lord Jesus Christ!” And then my heart is filled afresh with Your Spirit. Then my mind is renewed again with Your Word: “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). “He who is in (me) is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed--always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh” (2 Corinthians 4:7-11). “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus! ...” (2 Corinthians 4:13-14). This is how “grace, having spread through many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God!” (2 Corinthians 4:15) This is how I trust in You, I believe in You, I speak out loud to confess with my mouth what I choose to believe in my heart with the attitude of gratitude that Your Spirit pours into my spirit as You remind me of Your eternal Truth: “Thanks be to God, who gives (me) the victory through (my) Lord Jesus Christ!” “Therefore (I) do not lose heart. Even though (my) outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For (my) light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for (me) a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while (I) do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches (and what Your Spirit is saying to me right now): To him who overcomes, I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God” (Revelation 2:7) In You, through Your victory for me and all who put all their faith and hope and trust in You, I am an overcomer! I am victorious! I am more than a conqueror! I have been given an attitude of gratitude that I choose to embrace and choose to proclaim: “Thanks be to God, who gives (me) the victory through (my) Lord Jesus Christ!” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
