“Let God Arise; Let His Enemies Be Scattered!” - August 31, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 31 - “Let God Arise; Let His Enemies Be Scattered!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, come rule and reign in my life and every moment of my day. ... “Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him” (Psalm 68:1). Lord, arise in the hearts of all who are fearful and worried about their lives, about their families, about the consequences of living at the mercy of armies and governments who do not know the God of mercy and love. But even so, those men and their governments, along with their form of law and enforcement, are not our true enemies. “For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). So we cry out to You to arise, to scatter Your spiritual enemies, to contend with those who contend with us and all who trust in You (Isaiah 49:25). Send forth Your word to heal (Psalm 107:20). Send forth Your Spirit to strengthen (Zechariah 4:6). Send forth Your angels to fight (Psalm 103:20). Reveal the truth that many more are they who are with us than they who are with the spiritual enemies against us (2 Kings 6:16). As Your scatter Your enemies, let faith and hope and love arise in the hearts of Your people (1 Corinthians 13:13). Let Your perfect love cast out all fear (1 John 4:18). And let the world see that You are a God who leaves no one behind (Hebrews 13:5). In this broken and fallen world, death has entered through sin and now death has spread to all men, because all have sinned (Romans 5:12). And in the freedom of will that an authentic relationship of love requires, some will always choose to advance death over life, darkness over light, and good over evil (John 3:19). So even as we pray and believe, some may die; but they will not die alone (Matthew 28:20). Some may suffer; but they will not suffer in vain (2 Corinthians 4:7-12). For even their blood, even their suffering, will be seed for the great harvest of souls to come (Acts 8:1-8; Matthew 13:39). So we cry out, O God protect them and save them. And at the same time, we cry out, O God let their lives or their deaths, let their salvation or their suffering have immeasurable meaning and unfathomable value in bringing many souls to repentance and many sons to glory (2 Peter 3:9; Hebrews 2:10). Give them grace to be saved, courage to stand, and assurance of Your love and Your presence through whatever they endure (Romans 8:28). We pray this for them and we pray the same for us. “A Strong and Trustworthy Anchor for Our Souls” - August 30, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 30 - “A Strong and Trustworthy Anchor for Our Souls” Good morning, Lord Jesus. My Rock and Refuge, my Strong Tower and Savior, I look to You and call on Your name to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit. ... “So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:19-20). How we need You to be our Refuge. How we need You to be our Hope -- “a strong and trustworthy Anchor for our souls.” Right now in our world, hurricane winds come to devour our cities. Winds of terror come to devour our peace. Winds of confusion come to devour our sanity. Even winds of doctrine come to rattle our faith. But Your Words still stand, “Peace. Be still” (Mark 4:39). “Be still and know that I AM God” (Psalm 46:10). There may be winds of change in our world, but You are the same. You are the One who never changes. Yours is the Word that’s always Right, always True, “Strong and Trustworthy,” never fading with time, never diminishing in power. You are the Word from the beginning; You are the Word who will never end; and You are the Word who is with us now and always (John 1:1). For You are “the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Word of God, speak into my spirit today. Bring me “through the curtain” of uncertainty in all the winds and troubled times that swirl around me. Through trust and surrender, through worship and prayer, through the grace of Your embrace in the intimate communion of Your Presence here in the “inner sanctuary” of my heart, speak to me, strengthen me, empower me to be still and trust in You.  Keep me grounded in Your Word (Matthew 4:4). Keep me filled with Your Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). This is my Rock. This is My Refuge. This is my Anchor of Hope. For You are my Rock, my Refuge, my Anchor of Hope -- My Lord and my God in whom I trust. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “I Will Save Your Children” - August 27, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 27 - “I Will Save Your Children” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Be high and lifted up -- here in my heart and every moment of my day. ... With all the world, what’s going on in Afghanistan is heavy on my heart this morning. My son is there with the Army. My brothers and sisters in Christ are there with the missionaries and the martyrs and the underground Church. My fellow human beings who desperately need Your protection, Your advocacy, Your mercy and hope are there. And those are there who desperately need to know the salvation of the One True God, who is a God of love, not terror; a God of freedom, not bondage; a God of good, not evil. As I listen for the leading of Your Spirit, this Word comes to mind: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘See, I will give a signal to the godless nations. They will carry your little sons back to you in their arms;     they will bring your daughters on their shoulders. Kings and queens will serve you     and care for all your needs. They will bow to the earth before you     and lick the dust from your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord.     Those who trust in Me will never be put to shame.’ Who can snatch the plunder of war from the hands of a warrior?     Who can demand that a tyrant let his captives go? But the Lord says, ‘The captives of warriors will be released,     and the plunder of tyrants will be retrieved. For I will fight those who fight you,     and I will save your children’” (Isaiah 49:22-25 NLT). “For I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children” (v. 25 NKJV). Our salvation is not in our government; our salvation is in You. Our salvation is not in military might or world opinion; our salvation is in You. And when we look to You, when we trust in You, You fight with those who fight with us; You contend with those who contend with us; and You save our children. There’s eternal salvation. And there’s also present salvation in our present circumstances. And right now, I’m praying for both. When we see You move in the ways that only You can move, when we see You do what only You can do, “All the world will know that (You), the Lord, (are our) Savior and (our) Redeemer, the Mighty One of Israel” (v. 26). Lord, let it be so. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Look Up! Your Redemption Draws Near!” - August 26, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, August 26 - “Look Up! Your Redemption Draws Near!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your voice to lead me into my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God (John 10:4). ... As I listen for the leading of Your Spirit, I hear in my heart, “Look up, for your redemption draws near.” ... I know that Scripture! I probably know it best in the King James Version that I’ve heard so many times in the context of Your Second Coming: “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28). And as it says in the New King James, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” The verses just before that declare: “There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory!” (Luke 21:25-27). Lord, are You coming in Your glory?! Is our redemption drawing near? ... What comes to my heart, what I believe to be from Your Spirit to my spirit, is this: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:36-44). What comes to me now is this: “I AM your Redemption. Look up to Me. One day I will come again in My glory. And right now I AM coming into every heart who will look up to Me. So do not let fear consume you. In the distress of nations, in the darkness of the days, do not let your heart fail you with dread of expectation of what evil is doing. Rather, look up to Me. Look and see what I AM doing. Take courage. Take heart. Do not be afraid. Remember My Word that I still speak into the heart of every one of My disciples in every generation until My return: ‘These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.’” ... Yes, Lord. John 16:33. Give us Your peace. Fill us with Your Spirit who lifts up our hearts and our eyes to “Look up” to You (Ephesians 5:18). We don’t turn a blind eye to the world; but we do turn our eyes to You. You’ve overcome the world. And now You are overcoming the world through us, by Your Spirit abiding in us, Christ in us the hope of glory, as we look up to You through all that’s going on in our world (John 15:4; Romans 8:9; Colossians 1:27). You are our Redemption. And You redeem all things. You cause all things to work together for good, as we turn to You, as we love You and trust You and remember You have called us according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). And Your purpose is to make us more like You, through everything we go through in the darkness and tribulation of this world, with our hearts open to You and our eyes looking up to You (Romans 8:29). In Jesus’ name pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
