Morning by Morning, January 7 - “Gathered Up ... Ready to Go”
Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me hear what’s on Your heart at the beginning of my day -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ...
As I wait and listen, this comes to my heart and rises up in the thoughts of my mind:
“Gather to Me. Come to Me. Draw near to Me. For you are being gathered up to be ready to go. Learn My voice. Hear My heart. Learn to discern My thoughts from your thoughts, My desires from your desires. And then be ready to go where I send you, when I send you, as I express My will and My plans through your lives.” ...
Yes, Lord. As I ponder what I believe I’ve heard and test it against the plumb line of Your Word, this Scripture come to mind:
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (Matthew 23:37-39; Luke 13:34-35).
You still long to gather us. You still call us to come and learn to listen, to come and learn to discern Your voice and know Your heart. You don’t want us to miss “the time of (our) visitation” (Luke 19:44).
You’re gathering us now so that we’ll be ready to go, ready to move, ready to advance when the time comes. Even now, You’re giving us eyes to see You more clearly, ears to hear You more distinctly so we can say in our hearts and know in our spirits, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
One day You’ll come in the clouds of the sky (1 Thessalonians 4:16; Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-16). But right now, and every day between this day and that day to come, You desire to come into our hearts. You long to gather us together with You. You have planned and purposed to live out Your life and Your will through us, as Your Body on this earth, filled with Your Spirit in our world.
As You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17) For we are the Body of Christ and You are the Head of Your Church, united as One with all who are gathered to You in order to go forth and be sent out at Your word (1 Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 4:15-16).
By the mercy of Your grace, may we hear Your call and respond to the longings of Your heart to be gathered up and ready to go. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
