Every morning is a new day -- here on the earth and here in my heart. It’s a clean slate and a fresh start. The old has passed away. “Behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
It’s more than a nice thought, a positive attitude, or wishful thinking. It’s the Word of God:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.
‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘therefore I will hope in Him’” (Lamentations 3:22-24).
Yes, Lord. Your mercies are “new every morning.” Every morning, my soul is renewed in You. Your steadfast love for me never ceases and Your tender mercies for me never come to an end. So every morning of every day -- morning by morning and day by day -- I begin anew, in a sense, with a clean slate and a fresh start. My soul’s untainted and undefiled by the past, expectant with hope to live into today.
Just as the old hymn declares with confidence and joy, written from these very Words of Your heart for us:
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
Even when I’ve been faithless, You’re always faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). Even when I don’t deserve it -- and I never do -- You always lavish me with Your grace and cover me with Your mercy, not on the basis of anything I have done, but by all You’ve done for me in Your steadfast resolve for all You desire to do in me (Ephesians 2:4-10).
Great is Your faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Morning by morning, new mercies I see! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
