Morning by Morning, February 24 - Nation Against Nation, Kingdom Against Kingdom
Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day, I seek first Your kingdom and Your Presence -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ...
“When (Jesus) was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Beware that no one leads you astray. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: all this is but the beginning of the birth pangs. ... But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this Good News of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world, as a testimony to all the nations; and then the end will come’” (Matthew 24:3-14).
Even as we see these signs around us -- nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, wars and rumors of wars -- at the same time, we see Your Presence within us. For the kingdoms of this world are shaken, but ours is “a kingdom that cannot be shaken” (Hebrews 12:28).
“Now He has promised, ‘Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven.’ This phrase, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of what is shaken--that is, created things--so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for indeed our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:26-29).
The kingdom that cannot be shaken is a kingdom that abides within us as we abide in You (John 15:4-7). The kingdom that cannot be shaken is the kingdom of God within us (Luke 17:21 KJV). “For the kingdom of God is ... righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17).
Come, Holy Spirit. Steady our hearts. Even as nation turns against nation and kingdom turns against kingdom, even as the forces of this world seek to realign the world in their image according to their vision, You are aligning us with You, according to Your image and according to Your vision.
Because we are in Christ and Christ is in us, our kingdom shall not pass away (Luke 1:33). “To (You) was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve (You). (Your) dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and (Your) kingship is one that shall never be destroyed” (Daniel 7:14).
Yes, these are days are struggle and darkness, of famine and sword, but at the same time, these are days of Your Presence and Your glory arising and shining in us--giving us courage and faith to endure to the end, as the prophetic Promises of Your Word declared long ago:
“Arise, shine; for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For darkness shall cover the earth,
and thick darkness the peoples;
but the Lord will arise upon you,
and His glory will appear over you.
Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your dawn” (Isaiah 60:1-3).
As we endure and overcome these days, we look forward to the day of the full consummation of Your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven and the fulfillment of this Word:
“The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” (Revelation 11:15) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
