Knowing “This is the Way” - June 7, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 7 - Knowing “This is the Way” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Put Your thoughts in my mind, Your desires in my heart, Your words in my mouth. Make me more like You today. ... “And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21). The issues of our day and the challenges we face are new every morning. The cultural landscape, the political pitfalls, the clashing of accusations, the suspicions and suppressions, and all that would seek to divide us and conquer us, to steal and kill and destroy us -- all swirl around us and strike at us like a snake full of poisonous venom. But our God is greater! And “the One who is in (us) is greater than the one who is in the world!” (1 John 4:4) Every generation fights its battles. Every age has to come of its own, through all it endures and overcomes. But we cannot overcome and come of our own in the ways of Your Spirit if we’re trusting in the ways of our world. More than ever, we need to hear Your voice. We need to learn to lean in to Your Presence, more deeply and intimately than ever before, so that we know that it’s Your voice we’re hearing and discern how You’re leading. For “(we) have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:4). But just as our issues and challenges are new every morning, so is Your grace and guidance, Your mercy and love: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,      His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;     great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,    ‘therefore I will hope in Him.’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,     to the soul that seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:22-25). Come, Holy Spirit. Father God, speak to my heart. Lord Jesus, help me hear Your voice. I’m waiting on You and listening for Your leading to guide my steps and let me know in my heart, “This is the way. Walk in it.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Spy Out the Land” - June 4, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 4 - “Spy Out the Land” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let my spirit awaken and arise into the newness of life You have for me today -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God. ... “Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying, ‘Send out for yourself men so that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I am going to give to the sons of Israel; you shall send a man from each of their fathers' tribes, a leader from each tribe’” (Numbers 13:1–2). My heart is Your Canaan -- the Promised Land of all You’ve set apart for me according to the promises of Your Word and the unfolding revelation of Your will for my life. If I’m willing to look and listen, to press in and pray, You show me glimpses and shadows of things to come as I “spy out the land.” Some things You want me to know. Others, it’s best if I don’t. But in it all and through it all, You want me to trust You that it’s “an exceedingly good land” (Numbers 14:7). You want me to trust You that the plans You have for me are good plans, for my good and not for my harm, a future full of hope as I learn to put my faith in You (Jeremiah 29:11). Come, Holy Spirit. Open the eyes of my heart to see the good land You’ve set before me. This day and every day, show me what I need to see and give me faith for what I don’t yet see. Give me grace to take hold and possess the fullness of my inheritance in You, my Promised Land of Your Abiding Presence with me through my life every step of the way. As the Apostle Paul prayed by Your Spirit for me and for all who are called to come spy out the land and enter in to our inheritance in You:  “I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give (us) a spirit of wisdom and revelation as (we) come to know Him, so that, with the eyes of (our) heart enlightened, (we) may know what is the hope to which He has called (us), what are the riches of His glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power for us who believe, according to the working of His great power!” (Ephesians 1:17-19). The Increase of the Spirit - June 2, 2021

Morning by Morning, June 2 - The Increase of the Spirit Good morning, Lord Jesus. Grounded in Your Word, filled with Your Spirit, help me hear Your voice and sense Your leading, as I begin my day in the communion of prayer with You -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. ... “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). Less of me and more of You. Not my will, but Your will. I want to be filled up with You and emptied out of all that’s not yet like You. The more I surrender, the more You rule and reign, as I entrust my heart and soul to You and Your will and Your ways. Help me, Lord. Help me desire this; and help me do this. You have to give me the desire and the power to trust and to surrender. But You’re faithful to do it if I’m willing. “For God is working in (me), giving (me) the desire and the power to do what pleases Him” (Philippians 2:13 NLT). And what pleases You is for me to trust You and Your love for me and Your heart to want all that is best for me. Then the more I trust, the more I surrender. The more I surrender, the more You fill me with Your Spirit. As Your Word commands each of us who are willing to trust You and obey You and embrace You in Your mercy and love: “Be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). But to be filled, we must be emptied. For You to increase, we must decrease. Your Spirit only fills us to the degree that we surrender to You. As we humble ourselves in Your sight, You lift us up (James 4:10). To the degree we humble ourselves in Your sight, to that degree You fill us up. You fill us up and lift us up into the place of Your Presence, in the deep communion of spirit to Spirit, heart to Heart, deep to Deep -- to the degree we surrender our will to Your will and open our heart to Your heart. Come, Holy Spirit. More of You and less of me today. You must increase, and I must decrease. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today! “Ride On Victoriously!” - June 1, 2021

 

Morning by Morning, June 1 - “Ride On Victoriously!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit, I want to begin my day grounded in Your Word and experiencing Your Presence. ... “In Your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right!” (Psalm 45:4) Glorious and majestic, strong and mighty in Spirit and Truth, ride on victoriously, O God! No evil shall stand against You. No enemy of the Cross will have ultimate victory. Not one of Your words will fall to the ground unfulfilled. There’s a need to ride on, for it’s time to advance. There’s a need to fight, for the battle is at hand (v. 5). “You love righteousness and hate wickedness” (v. 7). But even in the battles, with the Sword of the Word of Truth in Your mouth, You also carry the joy of the Lord in Your Spirit -- “anointed” with “the oil of gladness” in measure beyond all others (v. 7). And when the last battle has been fought, when Your eternal victory is won and made manifest on earth as it is in heaven, “Your name (shall) be celebrated in all generations; (and) the peoples will praise You forever and ever! (v. 17)” Fill my heart with Your victory today! Put Your words in my mouth and Your joy in my spirit. Let me love righteousness and hate wickedness -- not holding back in fear or intimidation, but arising inside in courage and strength to ride on with You “for the cause of truth and to defend the right!” (v. 4) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen. Be encouraged today!
