Morning by Morning, September 26 - The Feast of Trumpets - Celebrating Its Fulfillment in the Voice and Presence and Coming of Christ Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me hear Your voice in my heart to follow Your steps along the journey of my day, led by Your Spirit as a child of my Father. ... On the Biblical calendar, today is the Feast of Trumpets, beginning at sunset last night, one of “the appointed festivals of the Lord” (Leviticus 23:2): “The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the Israelites, saying: In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of complete rest, a holy convocation commemorated with trumpet blasts. You shall not work at your occupations, and you shall present the Lord’s offering by fire” (Leviticus 23:23-25). Under our New Covenant in Christ, all the Law and the Prophets, all the feasts and festivals, point us to their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ our Messiah (Matthew 5:17). And as we remember this day of “holy convocation” punctuated with “trumpets blasts” -- a day that begins the ten Days of Awe marking a time of humility and repentance before “The Day of Atonement” -- we turn our hearts to You in honor and celebration of all You have done. As a prophetic symbol, the trumpet blasts speak of the Presence and the Voice of God: “On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, as well as a thick cloud on the mountain and a blast of a trumpet so loud that all the people who were in the camp trembled. Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God. They took their stand at the foot of the mountain. Now all of Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke, because the Lord had descended upon it in fire; the smoke went up like the smoke of a kiln, while the whole mountain shook violently. As the blast of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses would speak and God would answer Him in thunder” (Exodus 19:16-29). In Christ, we hear Your Voice (John 10:3). And in Christ, we embrace Your Presence (Matthew 28:20). Also prophetically, the trumpet blasts speak of the call to attention for the return of Christ, our Messiah and Savior and King: “For the Lord Himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will be with the Lord forever! Therefore encourage one another with these words!” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18) "Look, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed!” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52) Lord, sound the trumpet in my spirit today! Awaken my soul to hear Your Voice and embrace Your Presence. In both the humility of repentance and the expectancy of faith, I long for the day of Your coming! And at the same time, I embrace the day of Your coming every day, here in my heart, right here and right now! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
