Morning by Morning, June 28 - Right Decisions from the Right Spirit Exalt a Nation
Good morning, Lord Jesus. All authority in heaven and on earth is given to You (Matthew 28:18). So I submit my life and every moment of my day under Your authority. ...
“Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).
Right decisions don’t just happen. Right decisions are made when we make room for the right Spirit to guide our hearts and minds to make right choices with the freedom we have. Right decisions come from a right heart. Righteousness is an expression of the life of the right Spirit abiding in us, flowing through us, touching the world and changing the world around us -- whether as people or as a nation.
And the right Spirit is the Holy Spirit -- the Spirit of the Living God who lives in us by “the Spirit of Christ” dwelling in us. “(We) are not in the flesh; (we) are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in (us). Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in (us), then the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (Romans 8:9-10).
The right Spirit is “the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. (We) know Him because He abides with (us), and He will be in (us)” (John 14:17). So there should be no surprise when those who embrace the ways of the world instead of the ways of the Spirit, who have the mindset of the world instead of the mindset of the Spirit, cannot receive the Truth and do not make and honor decisions in agreement with the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit of the Living God. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth” (John 4:24).
We become like what we worship (2 Corinthians 3:18). So if we worship the world, we become like the world. If we worship You, we become like You. And as You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17).
You are righteous and holy and true. As we exalt You and Your truth and Your ways in our hearts and in our nation by the power and grace of Your Spirit, You will exalt us as You make us more like You. For Your Word promises this spiritual principle: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you” (James 4:10). “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6).
It is “due time” for right decisions to made again in our hearts and in our nation. May we humble ourselves before You, in trust and submission to Your Word and Your Spirit as our Authority in our lives. “Renew a right spirit within (us)” (Psalm 51:10) -- the Spirit of Righteousness that exalts a nation (Proverbs 14:34).
