Morning by Morning, January 10 - It All Begins in the Abiding
Good morning, Lord Jesus. As I begin my day, I seek to begin it with You -- worshipping You, praising You, thanking You, pursuing You, abiding in You. ...
“Abide in Me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in Me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from Me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in Me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become My disciples” (John 15:4-8).
Yes, Lord. These are familiar words, but they are also profound words. “The words that (You) speak to (us) are spirit, and they are Life” (John 6:63). And Your words of spirit and life, of faithfulness and truth, fill me with Your Spirit and they come alive in me (John 14:17).
As I ponder Your Word and meditate on Its meaning with fresh eyes and an open heart this morning, my focus is dawn to the importance of abiding, to the significance of abiding, to the imperative of abiding. It all begins in the abiding. And without the abiding, there is nothing that really matters.
You are the Vine and I am part of Your branches. A branch cannot live apart from the vine; just as a branch cannot bear any fruit apart from the vine. “Apart from (You), (I) can do nothing” (John 15:5). Without abiding in You, I can do nothing.
Abiding is not optional. Abiding is not merely set aside for spiritual mystics, not merely an exclusive invitation to the spiritual favorites, not merely a reward for the spiritually faithful or successful. No, abiding is essential.
Like the air we breathe. Like the water we need.
Let every disciple of Jesus take heed.
Without abiding there is no abundance.
Without abiding there is no harvest.
Without abiding there is no meaning to my life,
But merely a life lived and wasted apart from You.
Yes, Lord. I’m listening. I’m heeding. And what I’m hearing, I sense an urgent need to be sharing.
Give us this grace, give me this grace, of a growing hunger to abide in You, of a growing awareness and awakening of this necessity of abiding in You above all else. As we abide in You and allow You to abide in us, our lives will “bear much fruit” (John 15:5). And only then, will our lives “bear much fruit.” Without the abiding, there is no fruit, no life, and nothing of any true value or lasting significance that comes through the efforts and days our lives.
It all begins in the abiding.
So Lord, let the abiding begin in me, more deeply within me. Let not a moment of my life be wasted anymore. Let not a day go by without beginning my day abiding in You. It all begins in the abiding. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays
My friend, may you be filled with a fresh passion and holy hunger to abide in Jesus every day -- at the beginning of your day and throughout every moment of your day -- that your life will bear much fruit to the glory of our Father, in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' name. Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
