Morning by Morning, June 21 - Taking Time to Turn and Trust Good morning, Lord Jesus. All that I am and all that I have, I entrust into Your hands with all of my heart -- as best as I can and all by Your grace. ... “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6). These were words of wisdom spoken by the wisest man in the world, apart from You, forever recorded as the wisdom of Scripture and one of the most powerful spiritual principles of life (1 Kings 4:31). Lord, give me the grace to truly trust You with all my heart -- holding nothing back, hiding nothing away. Set me free from my daily temptations -- actually my moment by moment temptations -- to lean on my own understanding instead of Yours, trusting in my own wisdom instead of Yours, insisting on my own ways instead of Yours. Move in my heart to slow down a moment, throughout the moments of my day, to actively, consciously, deliberately take time to actually acknowledge You. It takes discipline. It takes intentionality. It takes a sacrifice of “my precious time” to break free for a moment from “the tyranny of time” to bow down in my heart and slow down in my day to speak out Your name and lift up my spirit to put You back into first place in my thoughts and my day. Oh, but when I do, when I humble myself to look to You, to listen for Your leading, to follow Your steps You set before me in my thoughts and desires, then You direct my path. Then Your Word is fulfilled in that moment: “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Romans 8:14). “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27). “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21). “I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” Psalm 121:1-2). What could be more important, more meaningful, more significant, more powerful, than to find and follow the will of God? And it’s available to everyone of us, no matter where we are on our spiritual journey, if we will follow these steps to simply take time to turn to You and trust You to direct our paths. Your paths will always be the best paths. Your plans will always be the best plans -- not just for You and Your purposes, but also for us and Your purposes for us. Just as You said, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
