Morning by Morning, June 30 - Hope that Does Not Disappoint Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are welcome here in my heart and every moment of my day. ... “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5). Every day, You pour Your love into my heart. Every day, You fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Every day You give me expectant hope for good things to come and a thankful heart for all the good things You’ve already done and already given me. Some would say this kind of expectancy of hope every day is too idealistic, just wishful thinking, out of touch with real life in the real world. But this is exactly the kind of hope Your love invites me to expect and receive by the abiding Presence of Your Holy Spirit stirring up this hope with faith in my heart every day. In fact, as the Verses of Your Word just before this invitation to such extravagant hope make clear, this kind of hope is actually forged and refined through the very real struggles and challenges of real life in our real world every day: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:1-4). So fill me with faith, fill me with hope, fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit, as I begin this day expectantly and even ready to “glory in tribulations” knowing that even those tribulations will be producing even more of Your faithful, hopeful character in me. This is real life in my world. Welcome to my world, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit of the Living God, my Heavenly Father. From every day of tribulation, every day of experiencing the glory of Your Presence with me through them all, I know this hope I have in You, through all Your love You’ve poured into me, “will not disappoint.” In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
