Morning by Morning, June 13 - A Wall Around Us, the Glory of God’s Presence Within Us Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day. ... “‘For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst’” (Zechariah 2:5). Yesterday a big buck deer ran right into the side of my wife’s vehicle as she was driving two friends down the highway. There was much carnage -- for the deer and for the vehicle, but thankfully much protection for my wife and her friends. You were a wall around them, with the glory of Your Presence within them. They were not unscathed through the encounter, but it could have been so much worse. As we praised You for protection in our prayers last night, we also recounted how often You protect us in ways we don’t always know and fight for us in ways we don’t always see on our journey through all the encounters and collisions and carnage on our adventure of faith in this broken and fallen, challenging world where You’re growing our faith and teaching us to love and showing us Your love for us. Your wall of protection around us doesn’t mean we won’t experience some difficult or destructive challenges. And Your glory within us doesn’t mean we’ll be immune from trials and troubles and tribulations. But it does mean You’re with us through it all, with the Treasure of Your Presence going with us, coming along beside us, abiding within us: “We have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed -- always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body” (2 Corinthians 4:7-10). Through it all -- through the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4), through the waters and rivers and fires (Isaiah 43:2) -- You are Immanuel, the God who is with us (Matthew 1:23). You’re the God who’s for us. And if God be for us, what can stand against us! (Romans 8:31) “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord!” (Romans 8:38-39) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
