Morning by Morning, June 29 - “Let Us Go Up to the Mountain!” Good morning, Lord Jesus. Take me by the heart and lead me by Your Spirit into all You have for me today and into all You’ll do through me today. ... In a moment, we’ll be packing up the pickup to go up to the mountain where my mom lives in Ruidoso, New Mexico to spend some family time for a few days. And as I pause to take some time in prayer first, what’s rising up in my heart are these words up expectancy, anticipation, and joy: “Let us go up to the mountain!” And I find these words in Your Prophetic Words expressed by the Prophet Micah of a time to come when all is well and right and good again in our world: “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the Lord’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And peoples shall flow to it. Many nations shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.’
“For out of Zion the law shall go forth, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, And rebuke strong nations afar off; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore. “But everyone shall sit under his vine and under his fig tree, And no one shall make them afraid; For the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken. For all people walk each in the name of his god, But we will walk in the name of the Lord our God Forever and ever” (Malachi 4:1-5). There’s something in me, maybe something in all of us, that seems to be hard-wired with an eternal desire of hearts to want to “go up to the mountain.” It’s an expression of a yearning passion for Your Presence. And it’s also expectant hope for a time to come when all will be well with our souls and well with our world. One day to come, when You’ve come again to set all things right again, to make our world great again, there will be “a new heaven and a new earth... (and) the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” (Revelation 21:1-2). You will be our God and we will be Your people; and You shall reign in the midst of us all forever and ever when You “shall wipe away every tear from (our) eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (v.3-4). One day, we’ll go up to that mountain forever. Today, I’ll go up that mountain in my heart and in my hope in prayer for that day to come. And today, I’m going to go and pack up our pickup to go up the mountain where my mom lives -- which is about as close to heaven we can get, back in the arms of the mother who brought us into this world and keeps on loving us through this world until the latter days to come when You come and set things right again. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
